Chapter 14
On the seventh day after Amelia left, Julian was nearly driven to the brink of despair.
With a bottomless abyss behind him and nowhere left to retreat, he suddenly became clear- headed.
Although the divorce cooling-off period had ended, the formalities were still incomplete.
Whether it was to obtain the divorce certificate or to file for divorce, Amelia would have to come back.
After realizing this, Julian, who had been in a slump for a long time, pulled himself together again.
He applied to end his leave, and the first thing he did upon returning to the law firm was to look for Lewis.
Over the past few days, Lewis had forwarded countless messages to him. Now, seeing Julian’s haggard and thin appearance, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy.
Just as he was about to offer some comfort, Julian spoke first, his tone once again calm.
“Lewis, please tell her that I agree to the divorce. Ask her to come back and handle the divorce certificate.”
Hearing this, Lewis nearly spat out his tea.
“You agreed just like that? Aren’t you going to try to persuade her? After all, you’ve been married for three years!”
“She has refused to communicate with me all this time. What else can I do? I can only let her can’t possibly drag this to court, can I?”
Lewis sighed deeply, shaking his head helplessly.
“In that case, I’ll notify Ms. Leighton. Jules, don’t be too upset.”
Julian said nothing more and turned back to his office.
Leaning back in his chair, his body finally relaxed a little after being tense for so long, though his mind was still planning the next steps.

As long as she returned to St. Louis, he would have a chance to explain everything to her.
She had loved him for ten years. As long as he could clear up the misunderstandings, there should still be a chance to start over.
When Lewis’s message arrived, Amelia was sunbathing by the sea.
Over the past week or so, she had traveled through two or three cities and had completely put the troubles of divorce out of her mind.
Seeing that Julian had agreed to the divorce, a trace of doubt suddenly rose in her heart.
He had been pestering her for days, and now he agreed so quickly?
Could it be that he was up to some new trick to deceive her again?
To be on the safe side, Amelia consulted Lewis about the next steps. When she learned that both parties had to be present in person to obtain the divorce certificate, otherwise they would have to go through a lawsuit, she was left speechless.
She just wanted a divorce-why did it have to be so difficult!
It seemed that her travel plans would have to be put on hold for now.
She let out a long sigh, put on her sunglasses, and returned to the hotel to start packing her things.
At ten o’clock the next morning, she boarded a plane back to St. Louis.
Stella had been waiting at the airport for a long time. As soon as she spotted Amelia in the crowd, she let out a cry of surprise.
“Lia, how did you get so tanned?”
“Tanned? This is a healthy bronze glow!”
Seeing Amelia able to joke like this, Stella, who had been worried about her, finally relaxed and took her straight home.
On the way, Amelia talked about her travel experiences. While Stella listened with envy, she couldn’t help but worry about the progress of the divorce and asked a question.
“Did Julian really agree to the divorce?”

In fact, Amelia wasn’t sure about that either.

But this time, she had made up her mind to resolve the matter once and for all, so she nodded firmly.
“The cooling-off period is over. Whether he agrees or not doesn’t matter. If he changes his mind at the last minute, I can still file a lawsuit. Don’t
worry.”
“But if it goes to court, won’t it drag on for a long time?”
“Yes, that’s also why I came back. The sooner it’s settled, the better-no need to let things drag
on.”
