We Are Officially Divorced novel Chapter 15

Chapter 15

After hearing from Lewis that Amelia had returned to St. Louis, Julian immediately wanted to arrange a meeting with her, but was mercilessly refused again.

He felt a bit disappointed, but there was nothing he could do except wait patiently for her to come to him.

During this time, he read through the divorce agreement and the property division contract countless times, and bought many things according to the layout of their old house.

Holding onto a sliver of hope that Amelia would forgive him, he tried to restore the original arrangement, wanting everything to return to normal.

As days passed, at the end of September, he finally received a call from Lewis.

Amelia asked to meet him.

But the meeting place was in front of the courthouse.

All of Julian’s anticipation was instantly dashed.

Still, he went to the appointment, bringing nothing with him.

Seeing him arrive empty-handed, Amelia immediately understood that his agreement to the divorce was nothing but a lie.

But she had expected this, so she wasn’t that angry, only her tone carried a hint of impatience.

“You agree to the divorce, but bring nothing with you-is this your idea of sincerity?”

After not seeing each other for more than half a month, the first thing she said was about divorce, and a trace of gloom flashed in Julian’s eyes.

He stared at her intently, trying to find some trace of sadness or sorrow, so he could have the confidence to make her stay.

But her expression was as calm as a still lake, radiant and energetic, looking much better than before the divorce.

So, during this time, was he the only one who felt miserable?

Julian felt as if a heavy stone was pressing on his chest, making it hard to breathe.

“Can we talk, Lia?”

“Sure, after we finish the divorce paperwork, I’ll talk with you about anything you want.’

With just one sentence, Julian’s last bit of hope was completely extinguished.

His fingers dug deep into his palm, and his voice became extremely hoarse.

“I didn’t bring my documents. Will you come with me to get them? Please?”

Without even thinking, Amelia refused him directly.

“Go by yourself. I’ll wait for you here.”

Seeing her unwillingness, Julian had to come up with another excuse.

“A lot of things at home are yours. I don’t know where they are, so it might take a long time to find them.”

This time, he was actually telling the truth.

But Amelia still felt he was holding something back. After sending a message to Stella, she finally agreed to go back with him.

Sitting in the passenger seat again, both of them were lost in their own thoughts.

Julian couldn’t help but recall the last time they laughed and chatted together on their way back to their alma mater.

If he had known that was their last meeting before the divorce, he would never have left on his

own.

He would have stayed with her to reminisce about their ten years together, then told her his true feelings and kept her by his side.

But there is no medicine for regret in this world, nor is there a time machine.

He could only swallow the bitter fruit of his own making.

After a moment of silence in the car, Julian tried to find a topic.

“Where have

you

been these days?”

Amelia kept looking out the window, her voice still cold,

“We’re already divorced. It’s none of your business, is it?”

Those simple words deeply wounded Julian again. He pressed his lips together, his eyes full of disappointment.

“We’ve only finished the divorce cooling-off period. We’re not officially divorced yet. If we don’t complete the procedures within thirty days, the divorce application will be void, Lia.”

These days, Amelia had been studying marriage law diligently and had already mastered all the legal clauses.

She had guessed Julian would use this rule to threaten her, so she didn’t fall into his logic and simply changed the subject.

“No need for Mr. Cohen to educate me on the new marriage law. What I’m really curious about is, since you don’t like me, why use divorce to threaten me? Are you dissatisfied with the property division agreement I drafted?”
