Kaia froze, lowering her gaze.
"Do you really think it's appropriate to discuss our marriage right now based on a six-year-old agreement?" Finnian's voice was tight, his gaze burning into her. "The moment Brynlee was born, that agreement lost its purpose. You said it yourself: a child is the core of a family, and we would raise her together."
"The agreement is still valid." Kaia pressed her lips together, refusing to back down. "It's a legally binding contract, signed in black and white by both of us. It clearly outlines the terms, purpose, and conditions for dissolving this marriage. I think it's the perfect foundation for our divorce."
Finnian stared at her, leaning back in his chair and resting his folded hands on the desk.
After a moment of silence, he said, "The contract mentions an 'amicable negotiation.' Kaia, do you think this is amicable? Aren't you just being entirely unreasonable?"
Kaia choked on her words. Usually quick-witted, her mind went completely blank.
She was furious.
"For Brynlee's physical and mental well-being, I want full custody when we divorce," Kaia said, biting her lip, deciding to just lay all her cards on the table.
Finnian's brow darkened, his tone turning ice-cold. "Brynlee is my daughter too. She's a Sanders. I can't agree to that."
"Finnian..."
Finnian looked up at her, speaking slowly in an unreadable tone, "I need time to think about this. Whether that agreement is still valid needs to be reassessed based on our current situation."
"Besides, divorce isn't a small matter. It involves Brynlee. We both need to think this through carefully."
Kaia massaged her throbbing temples, easily reading the avoidance and delay tactics in his attitude.
He didn't want a divorce?
The air in the office seemed to freeze the moment he dodged the issue.
Kaia let out a cold laugh. "Does that careful thinking include the pregnancy test report Noelle sent to your phone?"
Finnian frowned slightly but didn't deny anything.
Instead, he took out his personal phone, unlocked it, and his long fingers swiped quickly across the screen. He turned the phone toward her and slid it across the desk.
"Is this what you're talking about?" Finnian's voice was steady, completely lacking the panic of a man who had just been caught. "You might want to check the date before you start throwing accusations around."
Kaia's expression stiffened. She stared at the screen. The date on the report was from two years ago.
Her mind went blank for a second.
"This is from two years ago. Noelle recently mentioned that a female employee at her company had a miscarriage, which reminded her of this, so she sent it to me," he explained.
