What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 167

Jane was a fiercely open-minded mother; her only priority was seeing her daughter healthy and genuinely happy.

Kaia blinked, taken aback that her own mother would suggest such a progressive arrangement.

"Mom, we'll talk about this later. Right now, I don't have the time or the energy for it." Kaia looked out the window at her daughter's sweet little figure playing in the yard. Her entire focus right now was solely on her child.

Of course, if Finnian came to her offering a separation agreement, she absolutely wouldn't turn it down. Since she was fully committed to getting a divorce, there was a real possibility of both of them remarrying eventually. She certainly wasn't going to let one failed marriage ruin her outlook on life.

The next day was Monday. Noelle had meetings lined up at the corporate headquarters. The second her final meeting wrapped, she made a beeline for the CEO's office.

Rounding a corner, she spotted Dexter on the phone, visibly stressed as he tried to explain something to the person on the other end.

"I wasn't ignoring your calls! I got stranded up on a mountain last night, and there was nowhere to charge my phone. It died! I'm telling the truth."

"Babe, please stop. How many times do I have to say it? I drove Mr. Sanders out to a farm over a hundred miles away yesterday. If you don't believe me, I don't know what to tell you, but that's exactly what happened."

"Who else was there? I told you, you don't know her. Mr. Sanders's wife was there! She works for the conglomerate. You met her that one time, remember? You're not seriously going to go ask her to verify my alibi, are you?"

"Okay, okay, let's just drop it. I'll buy you a present, alright? Next time I'll give you a heads-up..."

Listening to Dexter groveling to his girlfriend, Noelle easily pieced together where Finnian had been all day Saturday.

Her pretty face froze, her red lips pressing into a thin line. What was Finnian doing out at that farm? No wonder Julian Kendrick had mentioned calling him on Saturday afternoon, only for Finnian to blow him off, claiming he had an emergency and skipping dinner entirely.

Noelle stepped into the reception area, staring intensely at the heavy oak doors of Finnian's office. A sickening feeling twisted her stomach. Finnian and Kaia had spent Saturday night together stranded in the mountains. What did they do?

Endless, unbearable scenarios played out in her mind. A toxic cocktail of jealousy, resentment, and the sharp sting of betrayal clawed at her insides.

She fought desperately to bury these completely inappropriate emotions, but the images were just too vivid. It made her sick. It made her feel utterly sick.

Just then, her phone buzzed. She answered it to hear her assistant, Wendy Vance. "Ms. Lawrence, the 'Female Leaders' exclusive is all set for this afternoon. Editor Landon at Profile Weekly locked in the schedule. We need to leave for the hotel by two o'clock to get you into hair and makeup."

Noelle murmured an acknowledgment and hung up. Forcing the sickening jealousy down, she walked over and knocked firmly on Finnian's door.
