What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 256

Clutching a fresh box of watercolor markers, Brynlee shook her head. "Nope! Mommy is moving into a new house. She has to live in an apartment near her company for work."

Simon's eyes flickered with surprise. He looked up at the woman standing at the checkout counter. Was she moving out of the Sanders estate?

"Is that right?" Simon smiled softly, not pressing the child for more details, but internally, the information rang like a massive alarm bell.

At 5:30 PM, the two little girls reluctantly parted ways at the mall entrance.

"See you tomorrow, Brynlee!" Anna waved her small hand.

"Bye, Anna! I'll miss you!" Brynlee waved back.

Simon looked over his shoulder at Kaia. "Let's do this again sometime."

Kaia nodded, averting her eyes as she took her daughter's hand and headed for her car.

In a secluded corner of the mall, an unremarkable man wearing a cap and a mask lowered his camera.

He scrolled through the playback, selected several high-definition shots, and hit send.

In a high-end residential complex in the heart of the city, Finnian woke up from his afternoon nap in his private Skyline Penthouse. Outside, the sky was a dull, hazy grey. Watching the distant city lights flicker on, an inexplicable sense of emptiness washed over him.

Just then, Dexter knocked on the door.

Finnian opened it. Dexter studied his face. "How are you feeling, Mr. Sanders? Dr. Collins is here."

Finnian pinched the bridge of his nose. The sleep had actually done him some good. He gave a low grunt of acknowledgment.

"I'll change and head down," Finnian said, moving to shut the door.

But Dexter quickly interjected, "Mr. Sanders, about the assignment you gave me. I got some results today, but..."

Finnian's sharp brows pulled together. Dexter's hesitant expression piqued his interest. "Spit it out."

A cold sweat broke out across Dexter's back. He hurriedly pulled out his phone, opening a chat window loaded with fresh photos.

Finnian snatched the phone and started scrolling. When the first photo loaded, he genuinely thought his eyes were playing tricks on him.

Then came the second, the third, the fourth...

His jaw locked tight as he scrolled all the way to the final image.

He had originally ordered Dexter to have someone monitor Simon Quinn's recent interactions with women.

Kaia thought for a moment. "How about we order takeout?"

Brynlee blinked. She wasn't entirely familiar with the concept of 'takeout,' but it sounded exciting. She nodded vigorously. "Yes, please!"

Stopped at a red light, Kaia opened a food delivery app. Staring at the overwhelming endless scroll of options, she felt a sudden bout of indecision. She decided to focus on driving and figure it out once they parked.

Approaching the Veridian Future complex, Kaia spotted Mama Smith's Noodle House down the street. She turned to her daughter. "Brynlee, how about we grab some beef noodles and take them upstairs?"

"Okay! Whatever you say, Mommy." Brynlee wasn't a picky eater.

Kaia parked the car in a nearby spot, grabbed two portions of noodles, and led her daughter upstairs.

It was Brynlee's first time seeing the place. The moment the door opened, she fluttered around like a happy little butterfly, marveling at every corner of the apartment. Kaia took the bags into the kitchen to transfer the food into proper ceramic bowls.

Seizing the opportunity, Brynlee initiated a video call with Finnian.

He picked up immediately.

"Daddy! Daddy! Look, this is Mommy's new house! Have you seen it yet? It's so pretty!" Brynlee chattered excitedly, running into a brightly painted bedroom. "This is my new room! I picked out this rainbow bed. And I chose the little star lights above it too! Isn't it nice?"
