What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 276

She didn't care why he was there at all.

The ceremony was divided into segments: opening speeches, project presentations, and finally, the awards themselves.

Kaia listened as the host called her name and listed her extensive achievements.

It wasn't her first time on a major stage. She had won national-level awards back in college; to her, this was just a formality.

She walked up to the podium. When the host introduced the guest presenters, Miles and two high-ranking officials walked onto the stage.

Kaia's eyes lit up as she watched him approach.

She hadn't expected him to be one of the presenters. It was a pleasant surprise.

Miles stopped right in front of her. Taking the gleaming trophy from the silver tray held by an usher, he presented it directly into Kaia's hands.

His tall frame completely blocked Kaia from the audience's view.

Finnian couldn't see her either. All he saw was Miles leaning in, entirely eclipsing his wife.

"Kaia, it is my absolute honor to put this award in your hands," Miles said solemnly. The look in his deep eyes was filled with profound admiration and something far more complex.

Kaia smiled warmly as he extended his hand. She shook it firmly, whispering her gratitude. "Thank you."

Sitting in the front row, Finnian stared intensely at the stage. Because of the angle, he couldn't see Kaia's expression, but he knew Miles handing her that award carried an unspoken, intimate significance.

Kaia and the other winners bowed slightly in thanks before stepping off the stage. Everything went smoothly.

Over the course of the event, she went up three more times to claim her remaining awards.

Finnian watched the dazzling woman on stage. Surrounded by much older academics, she stood out like an ethereal, radiant lotus.

After the ceremony, there was a brief networking reception.

Kaia held a cup of tea, surrounded by industry veterans and R&D peers, deep in conversation.

Finnian was naturally a focal point as well, surrounded by a crowd while nursing a glass of champagne. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Miles walking toward Kaia. Seeing him, she politely excused herself from the group and engaged him in private conversation.

A subtle shadow crossed Finnian's dark eyes. Offering a brief nod to his companions, he turned and made a beeline for the pair.
