What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 278

Wendy scoffed internally. These pathetic gossips really had no filter, daring to run their mouths about anyone.

Mr. Sanders only used Kaia's award to generate positive PR. Did they honestly think it was some grand display of true love?

Clutching a stack of documents, Wendy knocked on Noelle's office door.

Noelle was standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, her arms crossed. Seeing Wendy enter, she immediately smoothed away the flash of irritation on her face.

"What are the people out there whispering about now?" Noelle asked.

Now officially working for Noelle, Wendy was a fiercely loyal disciple in her camp. As a result, Noelle spoke to her quite casually.

"Ms. Lawrence, have you been hearing the absolute garbage they're spewing out there? Please don't let it get to you. These people just hate seeing others succeed. They bend whichever way the wind blows. If I catch them talking trash again, I'll tear their mouths off," Wendy reported eagerly.

A contemptuous laugh slipped from Noelle's throat. "They're just dying to see me become a laughingstock. But I don't care. I know exactly why he went to support her, and it definitely had nothing to do with Kaia."

"Of course it wasn't about her! Dr. Chavez has won plenty of awards over the years, and Mr. Sanders never bothered to show up back then—and they looked like they had a much better relationship back then than they do now," Wendy quickly agreed.

Yet a flicker of confusion and deep-seated insecurity passed through Noelle's eyes. "Then why do you think he went this time?"

"It's just for show, Ms. Lawrence. Anyone with eyes can see he has no feelings for her. Don't overthink it," Wendy walked over, her voice softening in comfort.

Noelle nodded. "Send out an internal memo across Aethelstan. State that spreading baseless rumors that damage company morale and trust is strictly prohibited. Then, post a public message congratulating Kaia on her awards, and share those media articles while you're at it."

"But Ms. Lawrence... why give her the satisfaction?" Wendy felt a pang of sympathy, feeling like her boss was intentionally twisting the knife in her own heart.

"I have to do this," Noelle closed her eyes, offering no further explanation. "Just do exactly as I say."

Though reluctant, Wendy believed Noelle's decisions were always calculated and brilliant.

Once Wendy left, Noelle sank into her chair and closed her eyes.

Of course she didn't want to hand Kaia any kind of victory, but she couldn't afford to be arrogant right now.

If rumors of her throwing a tantrum reached Grandmother Josephine's ears, there would be hell to pay.

That old woman rarely left her estate and supposedly stayed out of corporate affairs, but her mind was as sharp as ever. She had completely seen through Noelle's ambitions.

The humiliating press conference the Matriarch had forced her to hold was the greatest stain on Noelle's otherwise flawless life.
