What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 304

Compared to Simon, Finnian looked entirely useless.

"Daddy, stop spacing out! Come eat!" Brynlee ran over, grabbing Finnian's arm and dragging him to the dining table.

As he sat down, Finnian looked at Simon with a mocking smirk. "Mr. Quinn is quite the domestic expert. I feel utterly inadequate."

Kaia didn't miss a beat. "You are inadequate."

Finnian was struck speechless.

Her sharp tongue was a new development. The gentle, compliant Kaia he had known for seven years was gone, replaced by a woman who refused to back down.

Simon smiled diplomatically, trying to keep the peace. "I just helped out a lot at home growing up. It's second nature."

Finnian offered a tight, humorless smile.

Kaia urged Simon to eat more, while Layla quietly assessed the man. If Kaia actually divorced Finnian, would she marry him? Layla wanted the best for both Kaia and Finnian. Life was too short to waste on a broken marriage, and Kaia deserved a man who appreciated her.

Finnian found the food entirely tasteless. He usually loved Layla's cooking, having eaten it since childhood, but today it tasted like ash.

Simon was internally stressed. He remembered his mother's warning: he was not to interfere with Kaia's life until her marriage was officially over. He hadn't expected Finnian to show up today.

"Mr. Quinn, do you have a girlfriend?" Brynlee suddenly asked, shattering the quiet.

The tension in the room skyrocketed. Kaia quickly fed Brynlee a spoonful of soup. "Don't pry into adult matters. Just eat."

Brynlee pouted. "I'm not prying! Anna wants to know. She says she wants an aunt."

Finnian's lips curled into a cold smirk as his gaze flicked to Kaia. Was she aiming to be Anna's aunt now?

Simon cleared his throat awkwardly. "No, Brynlee. I don't have a girlfriend. I'm single."

"That makes sense," Brynlee declared. "Anna said whenever you meet a pretty lady, you make her call you 'Daddy' so she goes away. Is that true?"

Kaia wanted to cover her daughter's mouth.

Simon burst out laughing. "Yes. Sometimes it's hard to reject people to their face, so I had to get creative. It works pretty well."
