What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 345

As her fourth call went unanswered, Noelle let her head fall back against the terminal chair, squeezing her eyes shut.

The darkest, most agonizing scenarios flooded her mind.

She pictured Kaia tangled in the sheets beside him, the two of them lost in the scent of their passion, drowning out the sound of her frantic calls.

What if Kaia's trip to Switzerland was a calculated trap to lure Finnian back?

In such a romantic, secluded setting, it was entirely possible for them to mend their fractured marriage. If they reconciled, they would return home as the ultimate power couple. And Noelle? She would be reduced to nothing but a passing breeze in his life, unable to make even a ripple.

She felt like she was losing her mind. She craved a cigarette and a stiff drink, but she had to protect the embryos. She had to give birth to healthy children. It was her only guaranteed way to make Kaia suffer again.

Morning arrived.

Harsh sunlight streamed into the hotel suite, jolting Finnian awake.

He groaned, pressing a hand to his pounding temples. His mouth tasted like ash.

Dexter, who had dozed off nearby, jumped to his feet. "Boss, do you need something for the headache? I have some painkillers."

"Yeah. Thanks," Finnian rasped, heading for the shower.

Ten minutes later, he emerged looking slightly more human. Dexter handed him the pills.

Finnian found his phone by the sofa and unlocked it.

Seventeen missed calls. Six were from Noelle.

There were also two frantic text messages from her, demanding to know why he wasn't answering and when he was flying back.

Finnian typed out a brief reply, stating he would be back in a couple of days. No response came through. He frowned, wondering what was going wrong on her end.

Noelle was currently 30,000 feet in the air, her phone powered down.

Around eight o'clock, a light knock echoed through the suite. Brynlee had come to fetch him for breakfast.

Finnian offered her a soft smile. "Did Mom eat yet?"

"Not yet. She said she wanted to sleep in and told me to get you."

Finnian nodded and led her down to the hotel restaurant.

After breakfast, Finnian walked Brynlee back to Kaia's room. Kaia had just woken up and answered the door in comfortable loungewear, looking effortlessly stunning.

"Kaia, I have to leave Brynlee with you. There's a major crisis at the company. I'm flying back now," Finnian explained flatly.

Kaia had already seen the emergency alerts on the internal executive feeds. It was a massive disaster.

"I know," she said simply, taking Brynlee's hand. "Say goodbye to Dad."

Finnian watched her casually dismiss him before she shut the door in his face.

The rejection stung bitterly as he walked toward the elevators.

On the drive to the airport, a paranoid thought crept into his mind. With him gone, Simon Quinn would have unrestricted access to Kaia.

"Dexter," Finnian ordered coldly. "Hire someone here to keep an eye on Kaia. If she does anything inappropriate, I want hard evidence."

Dexter nodded in agreement.

Later that day, Kaia and Celine booked tickets to France. Before leaving Switzerland, Celine learned that Simon had already returned to work, ending his four-day vacation.
