The rest of the trip was a joyful, uninterrupted mother-daughter vacation.
A full day had passed since Finnian returned to handle the corporate fallout. At nine o'clock that evening, Elaine summoned him back to the family estate.
Finnian had spent the entire day in endless emergency board meetings, but he had finally managed to stabilize the situation.
As his car pulled up the winding driveway, Finnian immediately noticed a familiar white Bentley parked near the entrance. Noelle was back.
Walking into the grand foyer, he found his mother pacing nervously.
"Mom, what's wrong? You look anxious," Finnian noted, instantly reading her expression.
"Finnian, is the company safe?" Elaine asked, rushing over to him.
"It's under control. We'll weather it," he assured her.
Elaine let out a breath, but her worry didn't fade. "Noelle just got back, and your grandmother immediately ordered her upstairs. I tried to go up and intervene, but Ava told me Josephine banned anyone else from the room. I have no idea what's happening."
Finnian's jaw clenched. He stared at the sweeping staircase.
"Mom, what happened while I was gone?" he demanded, his gaze turning somber.
Knowing she couldn't hide it, Elaine confessed everything about the disastrous blind date with Warren, concluding with Noelle throwing her drink in his face.
"Good for her," Finnian stated coldly.
Elaine flinched. "Finnian, be reasonable. Warren is technically your cousin. You can't just support her humiliating him like that."
"Are you and Grandma out of your minds? He's a divorced man with a kid, and he's seven years older than her. Setting them up is insulting," Finnian fired back, completely disgusted by the idea.
Elaine argued defensively, "He comes from money and owns a very successful business. And seven years isn't that big of an age gap for a man. I thought they might actually connect."
"Warren is a scumbag. If Noelle threw water in his face, he absolutely deserved it." Finnian didn't wait for a response. He was already striding toward the stairs.
