What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 377

Inside the restroom, Noelle gripped the edges of the marble sink, retching violently until acidic bile burned her throat. Tears streamed down her face as her stomach convulsed over and over again, leaving her entirely hollowed out.

Finally, she turned on the faucet, splashing freezing water over her face to wash away the tears.

She stared at herself in the mirror. She looked ghastly—pale and drawn, her eyes bloodshot, her lips completely devoid of color.

The stark contrast to Kaia's radiant complexion and vibrant energy made Noelle's stomach twist with a different kind of sickness: sheer, unadulterated jealousy.

Taking a shaky breath, Noelle opened the bathroom door.

Finnian was standing right outside.

Their eyes met.

He took in her red eyes, her chalk-white face, and frowned deeply.

Noelle dropped her gaze. A sudden, overwhelming wave of self-pity crashed into her, and she desperately wanted to cry into his chest. But she knew she couldn't afford to show a shred of real emotion right now.

"Finnian..." she whispered, her voice rough and laced with an unspeakable sorrow.

"Are you alright?" he asked, stepping closer.

Noelle shook her head, offering a pathetic smile. "I'm fine. It's just a stomach bug. Don't worry about me."

Finnian's gaze sharpened, taking on a scolding edge. "Mom offered to take you to the hospital to get checked out. Why didn't you go?"

Noelle nervously wrung her hands. "You know how much I hate hospitals, Finnian. I had a private doctor look at me. He said it's just stress wreaking havoc on my digestive system. Please, don't worry."

Finnian sighed. Seeing her look so gaunt and fragile, desperately trying to put on a brave face, only made her look more broken.

"Go sit down. Try to eat something," he said softly. "If you still feel sick, Mom is taking you to the ER tonight."

With that, he turned and walked back to the dining room.

Panic seized Noelle. She absolutely could not set foot in a hospital. Her pregnancy was in its most delicate stage; a blood test would ruin everything.
