What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 417

A few minutes later, Kaia replied with a single word: "Okay."

Staring at that one word on his screen, Finnian felt as if a piece of his heart had been hollowed out, leaving behind an aching emptiness.

The wind whipped at him from all sides, doing nothing to clear the suffocating weight sitting heavily in his chest.

Finnian scheduled their face-to-face meeting for Tuesday morning. The weather was bleak and overcast.

When Kaia arrived at The Sanders Tower, Dexter was already waiting for her in the hallway. Seeing her approach, he stepped forward with a polite smile. "Dr. Chavez, Mr. Sanders is waiting for you in his office. Go right in."

Kaia nodded. The corridor was deathly quiet, though the assistants in the nearby bullpen were all sneaking glances at her. She walked toward Finnian's office, the plush gray carpet swallowing the sound of her footsteps.

She pushed the door open to find Finnian standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows. Hearing her enter, he turned around immediately.

He was wearing a crisp white dress shirt, minus the tie, with the sleeves rolled up. Faint dark circles shadowed his eyes, hinting at sleepless nights.

They locked eyes for a brief second. Neither spoke, as if they had silently agreed on how this divorce was going to unfold.

"Let's sit down to talk," Finnian finally said, moving toward the leather sofa and taking a seat.

Kaia sat down opposite him. Dexter walked in at the perfect moment, setting down a pot of tea and two exquisite white jade cups before tactfully slipping out.

Finnian poured her a cup of tea, then picked up the prepared documents resting on the table and gently slid them in front of her. "I made some revisions to the last agreement. Take a look."

Kaia ignored the tea and picked up the papers. The first few pages were largely identical to her original draft—the division of assets, custody arrangements, rights, and obligations remained as she had outlined.

It wasn't until she reached the fourth page that her expression shifted.

She looked up at Finnian. He was already watching her, his dark eyes entirely unreadable.
