Seeing her pick up the contract to leave, Finnian spoke up. "I'll have my lawyer handle the actual filing procedures. If you need anything, you can contact him directly."
Kaia nodded. "Okay. As for Brynlee..."
"We need to fulfill our duties as parents," Finnian said, a deep furrow forming between his brows. "Let's wait until after her surgery to tell her. Or, whenever the right moment presents itself. We'll let it happen naturally."
Kaia looked up at him as he leaned back heavily into his black leather executive chair.
It sounded entirely reasonable, so she nodded. "Alright, we'll do it your way."
Finnian's gaze lingered on her. Just as she was about to walk out, Kaia suddenly stopped and turned back to face him. "Thank you."
Finnian let out a hollow chuckle. "For what?"
"Thank you for not making this process incredibly difficult for me."
Finnian froze, a flash of unspeakable bitterness crossing his face. "The prenuptial agreement we signed back then clearly stated that we would dissolve the marriage amicably. I'm simply honoring the contract."
Kaia nodded. There was truly nothing left to say. She turned, pulled the door open, and walked out.
Finnian watched her walk away without a shred of hesitation. The composure he had maintained while seated abruptly shattered as he stood up, his gaze fixated on the closed door.
Kaia was gone.
Stepping out of The Sanders Tower, Kaia was met with a bleak, heavily overcast sky that threatened rain. The autumn chill was growing sharper, the wind biting as it whipped around the street corner.
She tilted her head back, glancing at the gray expanse above, before stepping forward. From this moment on, she was back to being Ms. Chavez.
"Kaia..." A sleek black Maybach suddenly pulled up to the curb right in front of her. Silas stepped out of the car, catching her off guard.
"Did Finnian call you over for something important?" Silas asked as he approached her.
