Noelle Lawrence received this reply, her eyes widening in disbelief. The other party actually called her Mrs. Sanders? Did they mistake her for Kaia?
Talk about shooting herself in the foot. Noelle felt utterly suffocated by the message, but she didn't dare argue further. If the woman found out she wasn't actually Kaia, it would turn into an even bigger joke.
The next afternoon, Kaia Chavez drove to Quinn Finch's law firm. Quinn was already waiting for her in his office.
An assistant brought in two cups of coffee. Kaia handed the divorce agreement to Mr. Finch. "He made a few changes. Please take a look for me."
Quinn took the document and flipped through it page by page, scrutinizing every clause. He lingered for a few extra seconds on the sections involving assets and property.
When he reached the fourth page, Quinn looked surprised. "He gave you the sole ownership rights to the Veridian R&D Center?"
Kaia nodded. "Yes, he added that, along with these shares and trust funds."
Quinn smiled and nodded approvingly. "Mr. Sanders is quite generous. I've been fighting divorce cases for years, and I've never met a man more liberal with his assets."
He continued reading, adding, "These supplementary terms offer much more than what you initially asked for. It's a very solid deal."
Kaia sat quietly, saying nothing.
After reviewing it twice, Quinn closed the folder. "There are no major issues. The clauses are clear, property rights are defined, and child custody and visitation are explicitly outlined. If he's not making things difficult for you elsewhere, I'd say this is ready to sign."
Kaia nodded. "Alright, I'll sign."
Quinn handed her a pen. Murmuring a quick thank you, Kaia flipped to the signature block on the final page and signed her name on the designated line.
The blank space between their two printed names felt like an uncrossable chasm, signifying two diverging paths that would never intersect again.
Kaia stared at her signature for a long moment before setting the pen down. "Then we can go file the final paperwork and make it official."
