What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 422

"How long exactly?" By asking, Kaia was essentially agreeing. The agreement was already signed, so she wasn't worried. The conglomerate's strategic moves were critical, and she knew that as someone holding high-yield company dividends, if this deal succeeded, the value of her shares would skyrocket too.

Hearing that she wasn't refusing, Finnian's tone relaxed slightly. "A month at most. Once the bidding is over, no matter the result, I'll go with you immediately."

Kaia considered it for a moment. "Alright. I'll wait. We'll finalize it in a month."

Finnian's voice softened. "Thank you for understanding. I'd like to take you and Brynlee out for dinner tonight. Would that be alright?"

"I'm busy. Just pick up Brynlee yourself. Take her out to eat, let her have some fun, and drop her off around nine-thirty." Kaia rejected him flat out; she had no desire to share a meal with him.

"Is the coordination with Cytogene that busy? You have to work late tonight?" Finnian asked.

"Yeah, it's pretty packed. I'll probably be working late," Kaia replied casually.

"Okay, I'll pick Brynlee up and have her back before nine-thirty." The moment Finnian finished his sentence, Kaia hung up.

The dial tone echoing in his ear left Finnian feeling a suffocating tightness in his chest. Outside, a steady autumn rain began to fall. The forecast called for a week of relentless rain and dropping temperatures.

Raindrops lashed against the glass, leaving streaks of water that instantly blurred the city skyline into a murky haze.

Finnian turned and sank back into his office chair. The final drafts of the bidding proposal were spread across his desk. He had been studying them intently just moments ago, planning to run through them one more time with his team.

But now, staring at the dense blocks of text, he only felt a restless irritation. He couldn't absorb a single word.

Just then, his phone chimed with a text from his mother, Elaine Sanders.
