What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 43

Her marriage to Finnian had begun as a cold agreement, practically a joint business venture.

What Finnian gave her was always respect and consideration that had been carefully weighed and calculated.

Kaia seemed to finally understand why Noelle, even after losing her husband, could so easily command Finnian's gentle gaze and unconditional favoritism.

She also realized that Noelle had always occupied that special place in Finnian's heart. He had never given it up to anyone else.

"The person recording is a woman. Who is she?" Kaia tucked away every trace of her devastation, looking up at Silas with steady eyes.

"My sister," Silas replied.

He had seen the instant Kaia's face turned pale, and the sheer shock and emptiness in her eyes.

"Finnian might not have truly realized his feelings for her back then, or maybe he did, but Grandmother's arrangement, and my older cousin Rafael going along with it, led to the outcome we have today."

Kaia nodded. "I see."

Silas's gaze was sharp. "I didn't show you this to hurt you. I just wanted you to see clearly what you're up against."

"Yeah. Thank you," Kaia said, standing up slowly, her eyes calm and grateful. "I want to know more. Can you forward this video to me?"

"Sure."

"Alright, I'm heading out." With that, Kaia grabbed her bag and strode out the door.

Her heart felt like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand. Aethelstan had grown to what it was today largely because of the blood, sweat, and tears she had poured into it.

Now, Finnian had turned Aethelstan into a tool to satisfy Noelle's ambitions. Did that mean that no matter how much effort and heart she put in, it was ultimately just another prop in his game of pleasing Noelle?

That short, twenty-second video had become the final catalyst.

It incinerated the very last lingering shadow of her identity as "Mrs. Sanders."

Back in her car, Kaia slumped over the steering wheel. She no longer cared how Finnian planned to keep Noelle around, nor did she care how many more surprises he had lined up to win her favor.
