Noelle found Kaia completely pathetic. Unable to produce another healthy child herself, Kaia had resorted to brainwashing her daughter to spout nonsense. But acting like this would only twist the child's mind—it certainly wouldn't do her any good in the long run.
Finnian, on the other hand, didn't read too much into it. He knew his daughter. She wouldn't throw a fit for no reason; her outburst was purely a reaction to the broken promise he had made her, triggering her sensitive emotions.
The rest of the dinner conversation revolved almost entirely around Noelle and the unborn babies. Josephine had always lamented the family's sparse lineage, constantly hoping for a thriving, expansive bloodline.
Thinking of a flourishing family tree, Josephine couldn't help but look at Finnian. If he really ended up divorcing Kaia, he would inevitably have to find a new wife, and when he did, he would certainly need to have more children.
While Josephine deeply admired Kaia's technical brilliance, Kaia was fiercely proud, emotionally distant, and highly independent. Trying to turn her into a mere vessel for childbirth was completely out of the question. That was exactly why, after seven years of marriage, Brynlee was their only child.
If Finnian were to marry a woman with less career ambition—someone docile, obedient, and easy to control—expanding the family tree would be vastly easier.
Josephine sighed to herself. You win some, you lose some. If you want excellence in one area, you have to sacrifice another. In the end, a choice had to be made.
After eating a few bites, Brynlee pushed her plate away. Finnian handed over his phone so she could play a little game while he stepped out to grab a smoke. Noelle also excused herself to the restroom.
At the end of the hallway outside their private room was a beautiful little courtyard, right next to the designated smoking area. Finnian pulled out a cigarette but couldn't locate his lighter.
Just then, a delicate hand holding a sleek lighter extended toward him.
Finnian assumed it was Noelle and turned his head, only to be surprised by the sight of Linnea Holt.
"Is Mr. Sanders looking for this?" Linnea had coincidentally been dining in the adjacent room. The moment she spotted Finnian, she seized the excuse to follow him out. The Holt family had a major project they were desperate to pitch to him, and since her subordinates had failed to make headway, Linnea decided to handle it herself.
The chances of running into a top-tier executive like him here were astronomical. To Linnea, it felt like destiny, and her heart swelled with anticipation.
"Thank you." Finnian took the lighter, offering her a polite nod.
