Kaia glanced around. Her colleagues were already shooting curious looks in her direction.

Setting down her silverware, she followed Elaine out of the clinic. It wasn't until she stepped outside that she realized she was still wearing her white lab coat, but it didn't matter. She followed Elaine to an upscale coffee shop just down the street. Elaine pushed the door open and walked straight into a private booth.

Kaia paused for a second, her hands slipped into her pockets, before eventually following her inside.

Elaine took a seat. She was dressed in head-to-toe couture, her hair perfectly styled, but her makeup was heavier than usual. Dark shadows lingered under her eyes, betraying a lack of sleep.

When the waiter came in, she curtly ordered two coffees.

Kaia sat across from her and asked calmly, "Did you need me for something?"

Elaine turned her gaze toward the window, seemingly repulsed by the sight of Kaia's face. A heavy silence filled the small booth.

Kaia simply lowered her gaze, waiting.

Finally, Elaine broke the silence. "Kaia, are you really divorcing Finnian?"

Kaia looked at her and nodded. "Yes."

Elaine suppressed her rising anger. "Then tell me, why? Did the Sanders family mistreat you?"

Kaia remained quiet for a moment before answering smoothly, "No. We just aren't compatible. There are no feelings between us."

Elaine let out a harsh scoff. "No feelings? You survived a loveless marriage for seven years and you're complaining about it now? Don't you think that's a bit ridiculous?"

Kaia's fingers curled slightly. She had thrown her entire heart into this marriage, but seven years still wasn't enough to earn a place in Finnian's. Now, she was simply bowing out.
