What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 453

"The man you're looking for is Leo Chavez," Finnian said smoothly. "Don't bother innocent people."

The three men took one look at Finnian's undeniable aura of authority and wealth. They didn't know who he was, but they knew he was entirely out of their league. Their bravado evaporated instantly, and they turned and bolted.

Within seconds, they vanished down the street.

Finnian turned his attention to Kaia. "Are you all right?"

Kaia hadn't expected to end up owing him a favor under these circumstances. "Thank you for stepping in."

Finnian studied her. She was putting up a brave front, but he knew any woman cornered by three aggressive thugs would be shaken.

"Let's go inside," he offered, holding the door open for her.

Kaia walked in, and Finnian led her to a secluded corner booth. A few Veridian Future employees were scattered around the cafe, casting curious glances their way, no doubt whispering about the relationship between Dr. Chavez and Mr. Sanders.

Finnian ordered Kaia's usual coffee and asked if she wanted any pastries. She politely declined.

"What kind of trouble is your brother in? Why are his debt collectors coming after you?" Finnian asked, genuinely curious after witnessing the confrontation.

Kaia looked down, hesitating before giving him a brief rundown. Leo had been set up, blew eighty million dollars on a scam, and was now drowning in debt.

Finnian let out a low, cynical chuckle. "Someone must have leaked that your brother secured fifty million dollars from Cytogene AG. They set up a trap to drain his funds. That Brent you mentioned is likely the mastermind."

Kaia had already suspected as much. Information brokers were ruthless. She stared at her coffee cup, emotionally drained by the whole ordeal.

"Do you need me to have my people recover the money? I can pull some strings and follow Brent's trail," Finnian offered. He could see how exhausted she was. He was well aware of Leo's reckless ambition, and scammers preyed on exactly that kind of greed.

Kaia shook her head, unwilling to owe Finnian anything more. "No. He made this mess; he can clean it up."

Finnian nodded, but added a warning. "These guys won't just let it go. They left today, but they'll be back tomorrow. They might even track down your parents. It's not safe."

Kaia frowned, knowing he was right. If they were bold enough to ambush her in broad daylight, they had definitely been stalking her. They would harass her parents next. There would be no peace.

Her grip tightened on her cup. These thugs knew exactly how to toe the line of the law. They wouldn't resort to blatant violence, but they would hound their targets relentlessly, depriving them of sleep and draining their sanity. It was a suffocating tactic.
