What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 495

Gordon walked in, set the flowers aside, and sat in the chair next to the bed.

Dressed in a sharp, dark gray suit, he looked crisp and professional, as if he had just stepped out of a boardroom.

"Are you feeling any better?" he asked.

Noelle nodded. "Much better. You've been working hard at Aethelstan."

Gordon offered a dedicated expression. "Just focus on resting. Don't worry about anything else. Mr. Sanders will help out too."

At the mention of Finnian, her eyes dimmed.

She had been in the hospital for nearly ten days, and Finnian had only called once—strictly for business. As for visiting, he hadn't shown his face at all.

She was starting to wonder if he even considered her a patient anymore.

Silence settled over the room. Noelle looked down at the IV needle taped to the back of her hand. A tiny trace of blood seeped out, making her look incredibly fragile.

Gordon's eyes reddened with heartache.

"Gordon, I know you care about me a lot," Noelle finally spoke. "But... I don't want you coming here anymore."

He froze, looking up at her.

"I don't want to cause any misunderstandings. Do you know what I mean?"

He nodded slowly. "I understand."

Noelle relaxed. Gordon lingered for a few seconds before standing up. "Take care of yourself. I'll head back to the office. If you need anything..."

"I won't," she said with a soft smile.

Gordon knew Noelle's gaze would never land on him, yet he always harbored a sliver of hope.

That afternoon, Elaine came by, carrying an insulated thermos.

When she walked in, Noelle was scrolling through her phone. Seeing Elaine, she immediately set it aside and called out gently, "Mom!"

Elaine gave a brief acknowledgment and sat by the bed. "This is chicken soup. It's a little hot right now. Let it cool, then have Martha give you a couple of bowls."

Were they finally getting the papers signed?

She sighed heavily in her heart. She should have been thrilled, but she couldn't bring herself to feel happy.

Finnian hadn't visited her once these past few days. In the past, he would have proactively checked on her and rushed over to handle any issues.

Still, their divorce checked off a major obstacle. At the very least, she could start calculating her next moves.

Staring out at the sky through the window, Noelle leaned back against the pillows, the gears in her mind turning rapidly.

Elaine returned the next morning. This time, she didn't bring anything. She just sat in the chair next to the bed while Noelle slept.

Noelle was resting fitfully, feeling the weight of someone's stare. She jolted awake to find Elaine watching her without blinking.

"Mom, you're here." Noelle quickly pushed herself up with a smile. "When did you get here? Why didn't you wake me?"

"How are you feeling?" Elaine asked flatly.
