What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 499

Pearl hurried out with a glass of water. Hearing her younger daughter's remarks, she scolded, "Chloe, she's your sister. Can't you keep your mouth shut?"

"No!" Chloe was seething with frustration. "I can't stand her acting like she's better than everyone. You bend over backward for her, and she still gives you this cold, snobby attitude. Who is she trying to impress? We're all human. I don't see how anyone is inferior to her."

Noelle's face turned pale, and she kept her head down in silence.

David walked over and spoke to Chloe, "Alright, enough. I'll transfer some money to you. Go out and do some shopping."

Chloe twisted her lips. "Dad, Mom, aren't you going to ask her why she suddenly wanted to move in with us? Did she offend the Sanders family and get kicked out? Is that why she's forced to crawl back here?"

Like a cat getting its tail stepped on, Noelle snapped her head up and glared murderously at Chloe.

She essentially had been kicked out, which made those words the exact thing she dreaded hearing.

"David, Mom, if she doesn't want me here, I'll go back to my own home." Noelle stood up, pushing her stomach out slightly, and turned toward the door.

Pearl looked stunned. She noticed Noelle's protruding belly and finally realized what was going on.

"Noelle, are you... pregnant?" Pearl had no idea. Elaine might have gossiped about it among the wealthy socialites, but Pearl ran in completely different circles. And knowing Noelle's temper, the Shaw family didn't dare pry into her life.

"Yes. I'm carrying a child of the Sanders family." Noelle delivered the line with immense confidence. She lifted her chin, shooting a challenging look at Chloe. "I'm pregnant and I came back to stay with my mother's family for a while. Is that a crime?"

Pearl snapped out of her daze, staring at Noelle with sheer ecstasy. "What did you just call me?"

"Mom." Noelle looked at her, putting on a remorseful expression. "I was wrong for refusing to call you Mom before. You gave birth to me, I should call you Mom."

"Oh, I'm so happy you're willing to accept me! Just rest well here, I'll take great care of you." Pearl was practically glowing with joy, especially knowing her daughter was carrying a Sanders heir. In her eyes, Noelle was practically royalty now.

David stood nearby, chuckling. "Chloe didn't get much schooling, she definitely lacks some manners. It'd be great if you could teach her."

Noelle gave a half-smile. "I will."

She took a sip of water from the glass, but a distinct smell of cheap plastic hit her nose. She couldn't tell where it came from, but it made her nauseous. Turning to Martha, she ordered, "Martha, I pay your salary. From now on, you'll help with the cooking here. I'm used to your food."

Martha had pocketed quite a few bonuses from Noelle and happily agreed.

But Martha was shrewd. Being around Noelle around the clock, she had noticed the shifting tides. No matter what the Sanders family thought of Noelle, she was carrying their late eldest son's child. They wouldn't skimp on taking care of her.

Meanwhile, after massive collective efforts, The Sanders Conglomerate officially secured the government contract, completely sweeping the competition.
