Simon couldn't explain everything in that split second, but he knew for a fact that Finnian and Kaia's marriage was officially over.
"Mr. Sanders, you've got it all wrong. Kaia and I haven't had any private contact over the years. I've been working overseas..."
"I don't want to hear it from you. Kaia, you tell me. You had a crush on him back then, so why didn't you marry him? Why did you choose to marry me?" Finnian unleashed all the pent-up frustration he had been holding onto for days.
Simon froze, immediately looking down at Kaia's face to confirm if it was true.
Kaia had a crush on him?
How was that possible?
How could he not have known?
Kaia's usually calm face flushed crimson with humiliation and anger. She glared at Finnian. "Don't talk nonsense. I've always respected him. We're just friends."
"Liar." Finnian wasn't about to believe her. The smug look she gave him when she held up the divorce certificate earlier couldn't possibly be fake.
Kaia didn't have the energy to argue with him. She turned to Simon. "I'll accept the flowers, but I have patients waiting at the clinic. Move your car for now, and we'll catch up another time."
Simon nodded, still looking somewhat dazed. As he opened his car door to get in, he couldn't help but look back at Kaia, desperately searching her face for any trace of the crush she supposedly harbored for him back in the day.
