"I'm not moving. You owe me the truth." Finnian was more aggressive than ever before. He shot his arm out and braced his hand against her car door, stopping her from closing it.
Kaia stared at him, finding this version of the man somewhat unrecognizable.
"Finnian, everything requires evidence. If you have proof that I betrayed you, show it to me. If you don't, you're just being completely unreasonable." Kaia tried to reason with him calmly.
"Kaia, I feel like I still don't know you at all. What exactly goes on in your head?" Finnian glared down at her. In that moment, she felt like a total stranger. Even as his wife, he realized he had never truly understood her.
"You don't need to know what I'm thinking. I've set you free. The first thing you should do is tell Noelle that you're a single man now. Go do whatever it is you two want to do, and leave my life alone." With that, Kaia yanked the car door shut with violent force, narrowly missing Finnian's fingers. If he hadn't pulled back fast enough, he would have lost half his hand.
The Mercedes sped off like a gust of wind, leaving Finnian to furiously chase after it for two steps, eating nothing but the dust left in its wake.
Seeing the situation, Dexter quickly pulled the car over and stepped out to check on his boss. "Mr. Sanders, did you and Dr. Chavez get into a fight?"
Finnian's face was as black as thunder. His lips pressed into a thin line, he silently yanked open the back door and slid into the seat.
Dexter shook his head helplessly. Ever since Dr. Chavez asked for a divorce, it was as if Mr. Sanders had developed a split personality. The man who used to handle everything with measured composure was now losing his mind over every little thing.
Finnian pressed his fingers hard against his forehead, leaning back in the seat. His face flushed wildly between red and a sickly pale.
Just then, a text from Noelle chimed on his phone.
The message read: "Finnian, I'm so sorry. My foolishness has caused so much tension for you and the Sanders family. I feel terrible, and Mom seems really upset too. Please give me a chance to make things right. I promise I'll think twice before doing anything from now on."
As Finnian read the message, his expression didn't soften; it grew even grimmer.
