Noelle walked in.
Finnian sat behind his desk, documents spread out before him, a fountain pen in his hand. When he looked up and saw Noelle, his brow twitched slightly. He set the pen down and leaned back in his chair. "What brings you here?"
Hearing his question, Noelle walked over, feigning a relaxed smile. "I just came from Aethelstan to hand over some work. There are a few documents here that need your signature."
She pushed the folder across the desk.
Finnian took it, opened it, and read through the pages one by one. Finally, he picked up his pen and quickly signed his name.
Noelle watched his profile. The morning sun hit the sharp angles of his face, making his features look even more strikingly handsome.
For a moment, Noelle was completely mesmerized, her mind wandering.
Once he finished signing, Finnian handed the documents back. "All set."
When she saw that he hadn't stood up from his chair, she froze.
In the past, whenever she came to his office, he would always stand up, ask if she wanted water, and casually chat with her like family or a close friend.
Today, his attitude was ice cold.
Noelle stared at the documents without reaching for them, just standing there blankly, her fingers twisting the strap of her purse around and around.
"Finnian," Noelle said softly, "have you been busy lately?"
Finnian replied flatly, "I've been alright."
Noelle forced a bright smile. "I'm getting used to living at the Lawrence house again. Martha makes me soup every single day. Look, I've even gained a little weight..."
