What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 524

Finnian's mind buzzed, and he froze in place as if paralyzed.

Without another word, Miles took long strides toward the elevators.

Finnian's fingers tightened involuntarily as he stared at Miles's retreating back.

"What did he just say?"

Dexter had heard it loud and clear. "Director Kendrick said Dr. Chavez is here at the hotel. They..."

Finnian's breathing grew heavy, his handsome face instantly darkening. Kaia and Miles got a hotel room together?

"Mr. Sanders, are you..."

Finnian had already turned and marched toward the elevators. He watched the numbers above the car Miles had taken, which finally stopped at the fifteenth floor.

Finnian didn't even know what he intended to do, but his finger rapidly jabbed the elevator button.

Upstairs, Miles knocked on the door. Kaia answered in a hotel bathrobe. She had tried using a hair dryer to dry her coat, but the fabric was too thick, and it remained damp.

Miles handed her the shopping bag. "Go change. If it doesn't fit, I can go back down and exchange it."

Kaia took the bag and retreated into the bathroom.

Just as she was changing, there was another knock at the hotel room door.

Miles opened it, only to find Finnian standing alone in the hallway.

Dexter had asked the front desk for Miles's room number, allowing Finnian to pinpoint the exact location. The two men stood face-to-face. Finnian shoved past Miles's shoulder and strode right into the room.

Kaia didn't try to stop him. Once the door clicked shut, Miles broke the silence. "I ran into him down in the lobby. I didn't expect him to come up."

"It's fine," Kaia said, feeling annoyed. In the past, Finnian never would have acted so irrational. But ever since the divorce, his temper seemed to have worsened.

Kaia figured it was bruised ego. A man used to having his way didn't like being rejected.

Thinking of this, she gave a dry smile. Finnian's refusal to accept reality was his own problem. Honestly, the air felt much fresher post-divorce anyway.

Kaia checked the price tags on the clothes—a total of around three thousand seven hundred dollars. She immediately transferred the money to Julian on her phone. Julian glanced at the notification and shook his head. "You don't have to do that. It's not much."

"I insist. Please accept it," Kaia said earnestly.

Miles had no intention of accepting it. He lowered his voice. "Kaia, we've known each other for over a decade. Do you really still see me as an outsider?"
