What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 530

Dexter blinked in surprise, then quickly headed toward Silas's room.

Kaia had just initiated a video call with her daughter. Brynlee's adorable little face filled the screen. She was lying on her stomach on the sofa, resting her chin in her hands, enthusiastically recounting the funny things that happened at school today. Kaia responded with soft laughter, unable to tear her eyes away from her daughter's sweet face.

The salty ocean breeze drifted in through the open balcony doors.

Just then, there was a knock at the hotel door. Still holding her phone, Kaia walked over and opened it. Finnian was standing outside, one hand resting on the doorframe, the other stuffed in his pocket. He looked as though he had been standing there for quite a while.

"Are you on the phone with Brynlee?" Finnian asked softly, hearing their daughter's voice drifting from the speaker.

Brynlee heard her dad's voice and immediately chirped, "Mommy, is Daddy there? Let me see him!"

Kaia had no choice but to hand the phone over. Finnian took it. On the screen, their daughter's eyes sparkled. He smiled and started chatting with her, asking if she had been a good girl today and if she missed him. It was their usual clingy, repetitive father-daughter banter, but neither of them ever seemed to get tired of it.

Kaia brewed a cup of floral tea, walked out onto the balcony, and sat down. She sipped her tea while gazing at the moonlight shattering across the surface of the ocean.

A few minutes later, the call ended. Finnian walked over, handed her the phone, and stood behind her.

They both stared out at the same stretch of ocean in silence.

Gripping her phone, Kaia was just about to ask him when he planned on leaving so she could sleep, but Finnian beat her to it.

"What do you think of Silas?"

Kaia's fingers tightened around her phone. Without looking at him, she kept her eyes on the distant horizon and replied, "He's a good guy. He takes his work seriously, he's genuine, and he respects boundaries."

Finnian stood rigidly. Hearing her list off Silas's positive traits made it painfully clear that she had a great impression of him.
