What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 560

The moment Kaia's name was mentioned, a collective wave of relief visibly washed over the shareholders' faces.

This move was brilliant. Not only would it resolve Aethelstan's immediate catastrophe, but it would also serve as a strategic PR pivot for Finnian and Kaia's divorce. By positioning her at the helm, they signaled to the market that even though the marriage was over, Kaia's formidable influence within the conglomerate remained untouchable.

As soon as the meeting adjourned, the news sprouted wings and tore through the entire corporation in minutes.

Kaia was still analyzing test data in her lab when her phone rang. It was Silas.

"Kaia, check your email."

His voice carried a heavy, indescribable complexity.

Kaia pulled out her phone and opened her inbox.

Just minutes prior, the conglomerate had blasted out an official executive order.

"Decision on the Merger of Aethelstan Medical and Veridian R&D into Constance Pharma."

Kaia's heart sank. Such a massive, abrupt decision?

It seemed the higher-ups had found their desperate solution.

She clicked open the document and read the explicitly clear terms: The Head of R&D for the new company would be Kaia, granting her absolute authority over all Constance Pharma research initiatives, reporting directly to the conglomerate CEO. Silas, the former head of Veridian, was appointed General Manager of Constance Pharma, overseeing operations, marketing, and business development.

Kaia was utterly stunned. She had just been promoted?

She stared at those lines of text for a very long time.

"Why?"

Kaia stared at him with cold detachment. "The mess at Aethelstan is a thousand times worse than anyone realizes. The company's reputation is in the gutter, and Project Code 012 is probably just the tip of the iceberg. With Noelle's catastrophic mismanagement, who knows how many more landmines are waiting to explode? If I take over, I'll be the one bleeding to fix Aethelstan's historical failures. If you think you can use me as the scapegoat to clean up her mess, you are out of your mind."

Finnian paused, then spoke firmly. "I am not asking you to be her scapegoat. I genuinely need you to take this position. You are the only person in the world qualified to sit in that chair."

"Thanks for the high regard, but flattery isn't going to convince me to take the fall for this disaster," Kaia shot back, her voice freezing over.

Finnian let out a soft, defeated sigh. His voice dropped low. "Kaia, I know you shouldn't be the one forced to clean up Aethelstan's wreckage. But... I have no one else. In the entire conglomerate, you are the only one with the absolute credibility to do this. You are the only person who can pacify those shareholders and force the market to trust us again."

Kaia was momentarily stunned. Finnian's tone today was exceptionally humble—it was as if the sun had suddenly risen in the west.
