Kaia had never even considered this question. She was fresh out of a divorce and her career was hitting a massive turning point. How could she possibly dive headfirst back into romance at a time like this?
"Mom, I'm not dating anyone. I told you, my plan is just to be a good daughter and take care of you and Dad," Kaia said, her expression entirely serious.
"But..." Jane knew her daughter's heart had been broken. Back then, Kaia had been so madly in love with Finnian that just one project had her flying toward him like a moth to a flame.
For the past seven years, she had always reported the good news and hidden the bad, insisting she was living well and telling them not to worry.
But no one knew a daughter better than her mother. How could Jane not see what a flavorless, lonely life she had been living?
Finnian didn't have her in his heart, so naturally, he couldn't pamper, cherish, or care for her the way a loving husband should.
Women were like water. Beyond material needs, their emotional needs were high. Unlike men, who were naturally inclined to conquer the world, women's complex and delicate emotional makeup meant they needed care and tenderness from the people closest to them.
A woman who was truly loved and cherished didn't need to fight the world like a man.
But after her daughter married, she buried herself in her work, desperate to reach the absolute top so she could stand in the spotlight, waiting for Finnian to finally see her—or hoping she could become excellent enough to walk beside him as an equal.
"Alright, I'm just rushing things," Jane said, feeling a mix of reluctance and heartache.
"It's fine, Mom, everything is great right now." Seeing her mother's eyes turn red, Kaia immediately hugged her warmly. "Once I get my annual leave, I'll take you and Dad traveling. We'll visit lots of places, stay for a while, and experience a completely different pace of life."
"Okay, whatever you say," Jane said, her spirits lifting again. Her daughter was definitely a blessing.
When mother and daughter returned to the private room, the atmosphere was bizarrely harmonious. Everyone seemed to have found a topic to chat about, yet everyone was also clearly distracted.
Kaia thanked them for taking the time to come and promised she would show up with gifts when it was their turn to celebrate.
Speaking of birthdays, Miles laughed. "Then I formally invite you for two weeks from now. Professor, Jane, please come too, and bring the kids."
Simon and Silas, who had been about to leave, froze instantly and turned to look at Miles.
This guy was having a birthday soon too?
Kaia smiled and nodded. "Sure, I'll definitely be there."
Warren patted Miles on the arm. "We'll bring the whole family. Don't complain that there are too many of us."

The readers' comments on the novel: What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage
Finnian is finally awake to Noelle’s schemes! I hope he cuts the cord completely and brutally. He needs to truly repent and suffer the consequences for all the pain he caused Kaia and his blatant favoritism toward Noelle. Only then should there be even a slight hope of Kaia softening her heart....
Why does this book take so long to update, instead of 5 chapters mentioned above, we are getting about one chapter a day on average! please do not leave the readers on cliffhangers! thank you....
Please update soon. This story is good. And I'm hoping it won't go till 2000 chapters.. Although it's current slow pace is telling....
