What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 572

Noelle's eyes reddened even further, as if she had been struck.

"I can take responsibility for what happened at Aethelstan! Let me go back, and I'll handle the fallout myself. I promise I'll do it right this time. I won't mess it up." She put on a deeply humble and pleading tone. "Finnian, please don't kick me out of Aethelstan. That was the starting point of my entire career. When the family sent me abroad, wasn't it so I could come back and serve the company? Even though I'm pregnant now, it won't affect my passion for work..."

"That won't be necessary," Finnian interrupted again, not letting her finish. "This ends here. Focus on resting. Once the baby is born, it will need its mother. I've already made other arrangements for Aethelstan."

The sorrow welling up inside Noelle felt almost suffocating. She bit her pale lip hard, her voice trembling with despair. "Finnian, are you disappointed in me? I'm so sorry. I know I failed you, and I feel terrible about it. But if I don't have something to do, I'll just sit around feeling anxious. Why don't you let me work at the main headquarters? I'll do anything. Even organizing files in the archives would be better than staying home all day..."

"There's no need." As he spoke, Brynlee stirred uncomfortably in his arms, letting out a small startled breath as if she was about to wake up. Finnian quickly set his phone aside and gently rubbed the back of her hand, soothing her back to sleep.

When he picked the phone back up, he heard Noelle frantically calling his name on the other end. Having received no response, she was sobbing uncontrollably.

"We're done talking for now." Finnian hung up the phone.

Noelle nearly dropped the device in shock, but Dexter was quick enough to snatch it before it hit the floor.

Once they reached the lounge, Dexter brought her some fruit and a glass of warm water. Noelle sat there rigidly, looking entirely devoid of a soul.

"Assistant Dexter, do you think I'm a terrible person too?" Desperate for validation, she looked up at him. "Am I really that bad? All I wanted was to be with the man I love. Is that such a crime?"

Dexter had no intention of engaging in this conversation, let alone judging someone else's life choices. But with her gripping his sleeve so tightly he couldn't leave, he forced an answer. "I wouldn't say you're terrible. It's more about being selfish and overly greedy."

Noelle's entire body went rigid, and her grip loosened. Dexter took a step back and watched her expression. "They say tearing apart a marriage is a heavy sin to bear. You forced Dr. Chavez and Boss to get a divorce. The karma you've racked up from that is massive."
