Noelle's expression turned incredibly ugly. Her lips trembled, but she couldn't form a coherent word.
"Was there something else? If not, I have work to do," Kaia said, turning to leave. In a flash of desperate energy, Noelle darted in front of her, blocking the hallway.
"You purposely dug up those landmines at Aethelstan to destroy me, didn't you? And what else have you been doing behind my back? Did you run and tell Mom and Grandmother about what you heard on the third floor? Is that why they're blaming me for Rafael's death? You make me sick, Kaia. What's so wrong with falling in love? I was here first! What right do you have to interfere? If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be in this situation. This is all your fault!"
Staring at Noelle's twisted, furious face and the unhinged rage in her eyes, Kaia let out a cold scoff. "You reap what you sow. If you had realized the consequences sooner, you should have restrained yourself. Marrying the older brother and then scheming to bed the younger brother? Not even a cheap romance author would dare write something so trashy, but you managed to act it out in real life."
Noelle was so infuriated that tears spilled down her cheeks, yet Kaia's words struck like a physical blow. It was an undeniable moral failure.
Kaia continued relentlessly, "The project failures at Aethelstan have absolutely nothing to do with me. Stop trying to pin your own incompetence on my head. I didn't order the corporate merger either. Don't you find it hilarious that you think I stole your position? You stole that position at Aethelstan first. Remind me, how exactly did you lose it?"
Noelle's chest heaved. Tears gathered at the corners of her eyes as she fought desperately to hold them back.
"You have everything now, Kaia. Your career, your reputation. Can you please just let me go? You know Finnian doesn't love you. Can you just give him to me?" Knowing she couldn't win a war of words, Noelle completely dropped her aggressive front. She instantly morphed into a pitiful victim, begging for mercy from the victor.
"Didn't I already give him up?" Kaia replied with a mockingly sweet smile. "What's wrong? Was cheating more of a thrill? Now that you can finally be together out in the open, he doesn't want you anymore? Guess you two will have to go back to sneaking around in the dark to keep the spark alive."
With a final cold laugh, Kaia turned on her heel and walked away.
"Why are you talking to me like this? When have I ever caused her trouble? It's always been her..."
"You think she stole your job, don't you?" Finnian cut her off completely. "Noelle, after everything, do you still not understand what you lack?"
"I lack you," she answered instantly.
The answer was so fast it left Finnian completely speechless for a solid second.
"Finnian, maybe I'm just not cut out for the corporate world. All I want is to be a good wife. Do you remember when you promised to protect me for the rest of my life? You said no matter what happened, you would never let go of my hand. You said those words to me. Are you going to break your promise?" Her voice dripped with fragility and heartbreak.

The readers' comments on the novel: What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage
Finnian is finally awake to Noelle’s schemes! I hope he cuts the cord completely and brutally. He needs to truly repent and suffer the consequences for all the pain he caused Kaia and his blatant favoritism toward Noelle. Only then should there be even a slight hope of Kaia softening her heart....
Why does this book take so long to update, instead of 5 chapters mentioned above, we are getting about one chapter a day on average! please do not leave the readers on cliffhangers! thank you....
Please update soon. This story is good. And I'm hoping it won't go till 2000 chapters.. Although it's current slow pace is telling....
