What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 590

"I..." Kaia was caught off guard by his sudden question. The rush of young love had been a rare, beautiful thing—radiant yet fragile. At the time, marrying him had felt like exhausting a lifetime's worth of luck.

"You didn't. You never even initiated a conversation about it with me. You left me guessing the whole time..."

"I did!" Kaia replied, her expression turning indifferent. "I intentionally sabotaged the condom to have Brynlee. How about that? Does that count as breaking the rules?"

"What?" Finnian stared at her, completely stunned.

Kaia stood up, looking out the window at the setting sun as dusk painted the sky.

She wasn't going to hide it anymore. She figured it was better to lay everything out in the open, otherwise, it would just sit heavy in her chest.

"A year into our marriage, even though you were completely emotionally unavailable, I was still delusional enough to want a child with you. I remember you saying we shouldn't have kids right away because we didn't know how long the marriage would last. I heard you. But women do stupid things when they're in love, and I was no exception. I thought, even if we got divorced later, I'd at least have a child that was ours. I guess I got what I wanted, but looking back, I feel incredibly guilty for being so selfish. Guilty toward Brynlee."

Kaia's brow relaxed as she turned back to Finnian. "Raising her these past few years has been hard, but it's also been wonderful. I can't say you were a good husband, but you're a decent father. Brynlee has received a lot of care from you."

Finnian stared at her blankly before a dark shadow crossed his face. "So you planned on getting a divorce all along? You just wanted a kid and planned to dump the father?"

Kaia bit her lip, turning back to the window, her back to him. "I hadn't planned on it at first. It was only after I realized your absolute, limitless indulgence for Noelle that I made my final decision."

"I'm sorry. That was my fault. I shouldn't have ignored your feelings." Whenever the topic came up now, Finnian's instinct was to apologize. Looking at it from Kaia's perspective, she had truly been hurt because of his thoughtlessness.

"There's no need to apologize. We're divorced, and you paid out generously." Kaia turned around, her expression calm. "You were very generous. This marriage also helped me grow, so it wasn't a completely agonizing experience."

Finnian was speechless.

Kaia walked back to her desk, sat down, and picked up her water glass, taking a slow sip. "I'm so lucky Brynlee is such an angel. She understands me and supports my choices."

"Kaia, how do you feel about me now?" Finnian's chest tightened. He suddenly felt like a shameless jerk who was refusing to let go.

Kaia raised an eyebrow, looking at him thoughtfully before answering, "I feel like we let each other off the hook. We set each other free."

"You had a crush on me for years, and you just gave up that easily?" Finnian couldn't understand it.

"Not necessarily. Maybe you were busy wondering how your sister-in-law ended up marrying your brother instead of you," Kaia sneered coldly.

"Kaia!" Finnian glared at her seriously. "I'm not the kind of person you think I am."

"Oh, really? Then what kind of person shares a cup with Noelle?" Kaia scoffed.

Finnian froze. "I share a cup with you every day too, what about that?"

"We were husband and wife. What were you and her?" Kaia fired back.

Finnian's face flushed bright red. "I'm sorry, I didn't think too much about it back then. When we were kids, I used to finish her water if she didn't finish it, I..."

"You disgust me. How is that any different from me indirectly kissing her? Finnian, you're disgusting." Furious, Kaia spun around to storm out of the office.

Right at that moment, Finnian reached out and pulled her into a tight embrace from behind. "I'm sorry. I was wrong!"
