The sudden embrace made Kaia stiffen, her blood turning to ice in her veins.
The very thing she had once craved now felt like a suffocating rope, utterly redundant.
"Finnian, what are you doing?" Kaia struggled in place for a moment, but the man showed no intention of letting go.
"Kaia, give me a chance to make this up to you, okay?" Finnian enunciated every word with utter sincerity, his voice thick with guilt. "I was a fool. If I had known you had feelings for me, I wouldn't have spent the last seven years drowning in self-doubt and confusion. If I had just taken the initiative once, I wouldn't have let you suffer in silence for all those years."
Kaia bit her lip and pushed against him again. "A delayed confession is worthless. I don't need it anymore."
Just seconds ago, Finnian had been holding her with absolute conviction, but now, it felt as if a knife had been plunged into his chest. His arms dropped, repelled by an invisible force.
Seizing the opportunity, Kaia stepped aside. She brushed off her sleeve, as if dusting away a speck of ash.
Finnian's heart plummeted into a bottomless abyss, a wave of humiliation washing over him.
It was as if he were covered in grime, and she needed to scrub herself clean after touching him.
"Finnian, everything that brought us to this point happened naturally. You never forced me into anything, and I won't force you either," Kaia said, lowering her gaze, her voice perfectly clear and steady.
"Brynlee is the best proof that you loved me, isn't she?" A flicker of agony crossed Finnian's eyes. "Why won't you give me one more chance?"
Finnian frowned, as if finally piercing through the veil of lies that had blinded him for so long. He lowered his voice. "I'm sorry. I was wrong back then. But after everything that has happened recently, I finally see the massive divide between Noelle and me. I was manipulated into making a lot of those choices."
"Stop making excuses and dodging responsibility. You're a grown man, the CEO of the conglomerate. How could you possibly make a mistake? Aren't you supposed to be brilliant and infallible?" Kaia's sarcasm grew even sharper.
Finnian turned his face away, his cheeks burning. She was right. To the outside world, he was an omnipotent force in business, the trusted helmsman of a massive corporate empire.
But...
"Did you know all along about the shady operations Noelle was running behind the scenes?" Finnian looked at Kaia, his voice laced with self-deprecation. "I only found out a few days ago. I treated her with genuine care since we were kids. I always thought she was the innocent, kind girl I grew up with. I never imagined she had a thousand different faces. Around me and my family, she played the sweet, obedient daughter. Around you, she was clearly someone else. Kaia, maybe you'll find this laughable, but I truly never understood who Noelle actually was."

The readers' comments on the novel: What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage
Finnian is finally awake to Noelle’s schemes! I hope he cuts the cord completely and brutally. He needs to truly repent and suffer the consequences for all the pain he caused Kaia and his blatant favoritism toward Noelle. Only then should there be even a slight hope of Kaia softening her heart....
Why does this book take so long to update, instead of 5 chapters mentioned above, we are getting about one chapter a day on average! please do not leave the readers on cliffhangers! thank you....
