"Oh, so you're just nursing a broken heart," Kaia remarked, crossing her arms and studying him with morbid amusement. "No wonder Noelle complained that you've been giving her the cold shoulder lately. She even asked me if you had a change of heart. I was actually quite puzzled. How could Mr. Sanders, who caters to her every whim, suddenly have a change of heart? Turns out, you finally saw her true colors, and you don't like her anymore?"
"Kaia." Finnian's handsome face grew redder, his pulse hammering erratically. "That time I rushed to the cruise ship to find her, it was because I was terrified she might commit suicide. She had a history of doing things like that. Her phone was off, and when I finally tracked her down, she was standing by the bridge. She told me that looking at the water made her want to jump, that she had depression... I just believed she was in danger. I had to find her."
"Right, every dog has its leash. Noelle played you like a fiddle, and you enjoyed the ride, didn't you? What, are you tired of being her favorite toy now?" Kaia felt absolutely zero sympathy for him. Instead, she found him utterly ridiculous, like a massive golden retriever spun in circles by its owner until it was dizzy.
Finnian had come hoping for a genuine conversation, but seeing her stand there, treating his pain like a theater performance, he was suddenly at a loss for words.
Finally, he let out a bitter, self-deprecating laugh. "Maybe nothing I say matters to you anymore. Fine. I won't bother you again."
"Take care," Kaia replied curtly. The moment he stepped out, she slammed the door shut.
Finnian stared at the closed door, his mind buzzing with static. A strange, hollow ache rippled through his chest before settling into a dead silence.
It seemed Kaia's feelings for him had truly vanished without a trace.
Coming here to explain himself had been completely pointless.
Inside the apartment, Kaia leaned back against the wall next to the door. The sunset glow outside the window faded, giving way to the deepening night.
A sudden wave of irritation washed over her. That old movie had already ended. She was no longer a character on the screen; she was just sitting in the audience. Why was she still letting it affect her?
As the year wrapped up, Brynlee went on winter break. She moved in with her grandparents, Jane and Warren, and spent every day in absolute bliss. Elaine would occasionally take her out for fun, but the older woman could distinctly feel the emotional distance between them.
A bitter sadness gnawed at Elaine. Even a young child knew who was truly there for her, and she gravitated toward the ones who offered consistent love.
Staring at Brynlee's face, Elaine saw the spitting image of Finnian as a child. Yet, upon closer inspection, the girl's brow, nose, and chin bore a striking resemblance to Elaine herself.
At the thought, Elaine's eyes silently filled with tears.
In mid-December, Constance Pharma held a magnificent launch gala.

The readers' comments on the novel: What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage
Finnian is finally awake to Noelle’s schemes! I hope he cuts the cord completely and brutally. He needs to truly repent and suffer the consequences for all the pain he caused Kaia and his blatant favoritism toward Noelle. Only then should there be even a slight hope of Kaia softening her heart....
Why does this book take so long to update, instead of 5 chapters mentioned above, we are getting about one chapter a day on average! please do not leave the readers on cliffhangers! thank you....
Please update soon. This story is good. And I'm hoping it won't go till 2000 chapters.. Although it's current slow pace is telling....
