What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 652

Elaine set her phone down, thought it over carefully, and then picked it back up. "Kaia isn't the type to let personal grudges cloud her professional judgment. Besides, we're not asking her to work for free."

Finnian looked up, surprise etching his handsome features.

Elaine made the call. After a brief conversation, Kaia agreed to drop by after work, insisting on waiving the consultation fee entirely.

Elaine hung up, a bright smile on her face. "See? I told you Kaia wasn't like that. She's a doctor with a true healer's heart. Why would she refuse a patient? And she even said she wouldn't charge us."

Finnian was stunned. She was willing to come? And for free?

Could it be...

As dusk fell, Kaia arrived. She didn't bring Brynlee with her.

Finnian had been waiting for a long time. The moment he spotted her car, he stepped outside the courtyard gates to meet her.

Kaia stepped out of the car, carrying her medical kit.

"Let me take that," Finnian offered, stepping forward to help.

"No need, I've got it," Kaia declined politely.

Finnian looked at her. She seemed more radiant and stunning than ever, like a rose in full, vibrant bloom.

He wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but Kaia had become even more breathtaking since their divorce.

Finnian followed her upstairs. Before entering Josephine's room, Kaia turned to him. "You shouldn't come in. It wouldn't be appropriate."

Finnian froze as the door clicked shut in his face.

Elaine came upstairs and saw her son standing there in a daze. She let out a silent sigh.

"Come wait downstairs. It'll be at least half an hour."

His legs feeling heavy, Finnian trudged downstairs, glancing back at the second floor. A wave of inexplicable depression washed over him.

"Fallen for her?" Elaine asked, noticing her son's heartbroken demeanor. It looked exactly like the aftermath of a bad breakup.

"Mom, there's no point in talking about it now," Finnian said with a self-deprecating scoff.

"True, there isn't. The fact that Kaia hasn't treated us like enemies shows just how forgiving and gracious she really is." After the entire ordeal with Noelle and her own severe illness, Elaine had gained a much broader perspective. She realized that in life, there were very few things one could truly hold onto. Sincere affection was fleeting, and once missed, it was gone forever.
