What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 651

On the third day of the holidays, the Chavez family hosted a large dinner party, and Kaia brought Brynlee along.

The guests were all friends and relatives of the family.

Kaia was chatting with a few elders when she suddenly heard a familiar voice. "Kaia, would you take a walk with me?"

Kaia turned to see Miles and paused in surprise.

"Just down the path we used to take," Miles said, a hint of pleading in his eyes. "It won't take long."

Kaia nodded. "Sure."

After reminding Brynlee to behave, she followed Miles outside.

The campus was still somewhat deserted after the holidays. What was once bustling with students was now quiet, save for the rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze.

Miles walked ahead, with Kaia keeping pace beside him.

"Miles, is there something you want to say?" Kaia asked, her nerves pulling taut.

In truth, she was worried he might say something she couldn't answer.

Miles stopped and looked back at her. "The professor mentioned you and Simon are together."

Kaia blinked. Her dad had a big mouth; he was already spreading the news?

"Yes, we are," Kaia nodded, admitting it openly.

A flash of disappointment crossed Miles's eyes, but he forced a smile. "Kaia, you must know how I feel about you."

Kaia nervously rubbed her fingers together and nodded. "I'm sorry, Miles, I..."

"It's okay. Even if you didn't know, it's fine," Miles interrupted quickly, seeing her discomfort.

"No, I could always sense how good you were to me. It's just..." Kaia looked at him with utmost sincerity. "I've always looked up to you as a brother."

A brother?

The word struck Miles hard, but he quickly found peace with it.
