A fresh start.
It was already May, the vibrant season of spring.
Kaia and Simon's relationship flowed like a deep, steady river. There was no overly dramatic clinging typical of young lovers—just a quiet, accumulating trust and mutual reliance.
Kaia used to think love had to be Earth-shattering, full of wild highs and dramatic lows.
But being with Simon taught her that a quiet, peaceful love could nourish the soul like a gentle spring breeze, silently bringing a meadow into brilliant bloom.
Whenever Simon finished work early, he would wait for her outside the corporate building.
If Kaia had to work late, he brought dinner and kept her company in her office.
If she got off on time, he would take her out to eat. Most of the time, they would bring Anna and Brynlee along, looking just like a perfectly happy family of four.
After dinner, he would safely drop Kaia and her daughter back home.
There were no exaggerated sweet nothings, no sweeping, poetic vows of eternal devotion.
There was only the quiet necessity of companionship through the ordinary days.
Kaia realized that living without constantly rushing was wonderful. It gave her time to finally appreciate the scenery and savor the simple joys of life.
Right after the May Day holiday, Kaia attended an executive meeting at the Sanders Group with Silas.
Silas seemed to have matured a great deal recently, shedding much of his previous impulsive energy.
Kaia maintained strict professional boundaries with him, keeping their relationship purely between an employee and her boss.
Silas seemed to finally understand that Kaia would never choose to entangle herself with the Sanders family again.
He was destined to never have a chance with her.
Not clinging was the right choice—after all, why make things harder on himself?
As the weather warmed up, Kaia wore a sleek, round-neck white silk blouse. During the meeting, her seat was now very close to the core of the conglomerate's power, just a few chairs down from Finnian.
Finnian sat at the head of the table, his expression brooding, looking as though he were both listening and completely tuned out.
He stared at Kaia, but she treated him as if he were invisible, never sparing him a single glance.

The readers' comments on the novel: What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage
Finnian is finally awake to Noelle’s schemes! I hope he cuts the cord completely and brutally. He needs to truly repent and suffer the consequences for all the pain he caused Kaia and his blatant favoritism toward Noelle. Only then should there be even a slight hope of Kaia softening her heart....
