What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 9

"Noelle?" Finnian walked to the bottom of the stairs. "It's getting cold. Why are you wearing so little?"

His gaze shifted downward, and he noticed she seemed to be barefoot, without even a pair of warm socks.

"Why did Kaia take the 'Vitality & Calm' project from me? Finnian, I've put nearly six months of my time and effort into it. Why would she do this? Is it because I've lost my husband? Is even she trying to push me away?"

As Noelle spoke, she took a shaky step down the stairs and nearly stumbled.

Finnian's heart sank. He strode up the stairs in a few steps and reached out to steady the crying woman. "Noelle, calm down."

"Finnian, that's my project. Even if... even if it was initially based on her ideas, I was the one who brought it to this point. It's like my child..."

Noelle looked down, large tears falling as she shook her head. "Now that he's gone, do I truly have no place in the Sanders family?"

"Alright, first, go upstairs and put on some proper clothes. I'll have the nanny prepare some food. You need to eat something," Finnian said in a gentle tone.

"I have no appetite." Noelle turned and gripped the railing, making her way back up. At the top of the stairs, she covered her mouth, her shoulders trembling. "Finnian, don't throw me away like trash and send me abroad, please? I love this family. This is where I grew up. I can't leave..."

Finnian watched her fragile form, his jaw tightening as he swallowed hard.

Finally, his voice was firm. "Don't worry. As long as I'm here, you'll always be a Sanders. No one can make you leave."

Noelle slowly turned back, her tear-filled eyes staring at him for a moment. At last, she whispered, "Okay."

The late autumn sky darkened early. After finishing her work, Kaia drove straight back to Oakhaven Estates.

As her car pulled into the driveway, she saw a small figure sitting on the steps.

Brynlee was holding a small bowl of cut fruit, eating while she waited for her mother to come home.

Kaia parked the car and hurried toward her daughter.

"Mommy..." Seeing her mother was the happiest part of Brynlee's day. She threw herself into her arms.
