What We Had Was Never Real novel Chapter 18

Rosalie was a horrible mess. Her hair and clothes were disheveled, while filth and tear tracks stained her face. She looked like a demon that had crawled out from the deepest depths of hell.

Clutching Andrew to her tightly, she locked herself in a room. No matter who came to talk to her, she absolutely refused to open the door.

When Marissa saw that Stephen had finally returned, she was utterly relieved. "Stephen, Rosalie has gone mad! Andy is innocent, so you have to save him!"

Stephen didn't look too good. His complexion was noticeably pale. Exhaustion shone in his bloodshot eyes as he nodded and ordered the door to be broken down. Then, he slowly walked inside.

"Rosalie, didn't you want to see me? I'm here now, so let Andy go!"

Inside the room, Rosalie's head snapped up, and when she met Stephen's eyes, she abruptly burst into laughter. The sound was hysterical, tinged with a hint of desolation as it echoed in the room. It was a truly eerie sound.

"Stephen, I heard you went to Ethor but were chased away by Natania. Hah! Serves you right! Natania will never forgive you, never!" Her words practically oozed malice and hatred, as though she were venting all her suffering and despair at Stephen.

In her arms, Andrew was so shocked and scared of her current state that he started wailing. "Mommy, it's me, Andy! I'm your son!"

The terror and confusion in his voice were evident as he tried to appeal to his mother's last shred of rationale.

However, it seemed Rosalie had truly gone off the deep end. She shook the boy roughly, a resentful look in her eyes. She snapped, "Shut up! This is all your fault! You're so useless that I couldn't even become Mrs. Fost!"

She grew increasingly agitated as she spoke, the expression on her face becoming more twisted. The fruit knife in her hand slid across Andrew's neck, leaving a line of blood and causing the boy to cry even louder.

This scene reminded Stephen of how Rosalie had threatened Natania in the same manner one month ago. Back then, he had stood by and done nothing. This time, he had no choice but to take action. "Rosalie, calm down! Andy is your son!"

As though she had heard the funniest joke in the world, Rosalie cackled madly, her whole body trembling violently. "My son? Oh, right. He is my son. But I don't feel like living anymore, so he should come keep me company!"
