When Her Death Couldn't Break Him (Cecilia and Nathaniel) novel Chapter 2308

Calvin had never gotten married all these years, but not long ago, he called Cecilia and told her he had a child now.

Nathaniel stared at her. "Where'd the kid come from? Wasn't he never married?"

To be honest, Nathaniel had to give Calvin credit.

As a man, he had truly only ever wanted Cecilia, and that had never changed.

Nathaniel had always suspected Calvin stayed unmarried because of Cecilia.

Every time Nathaniel heard anything about Calvin, something in him tightened. He could never quite stop guarding against the same thing—that Calvin might show up and try to take his wife.

"He said it was IVF," Cecilia said.

Nathaniel went quiet for a beat, then asked, "What about the child's mother?"

Cecilia shook her head. "No idea. He said that's confidential, so nobody knows who the mother is. But Calvin's that outstanding. The genes he picked had to be good too."

Nathaniel gave a slight nod.

The tightness in his chest eased without warning.

At their age, with Calvin finally having a child of his own, Nathaniel could only figure the man ought to be done setting his sights on Cecilia.

"Is the kid a boy or a girl?"

"A beautiful little girl." As Cecilia spoke, she took out her phone, opened her chat with Calvin, and held it out for Nathaniel to see.

Nathaniel looked at the little girl in the chat window, and his pupils tightened.

It wasn't that he was letting his mind run wild.

It was that the little girl looked a little too much like Ceci.

"Don't you think she looks a little like..."

Nathaniel weighed his words, then changed them at the last second. "She really looks like Calvin. Very pretty."

Cecilia shot him a look.

"Of course she did. That was his daughter."

Nathaniel nodded, then asked Cecilia, "Has he been reaching out to you a lot lately?"

Cecilia nodded.

"Maybe because he has a kid now, so he came to me for some advice."

A sour note slipped into Nathaniel's chest, but when he spoke, his voice stayed even. "For something like that, it'd be more appropriate to ask a nanny. If he doesn't have one, I can have people help him pick a few. What do you think?"

Cecilia naturally didn't catch what he really meant.

She nodded. "Sure."
