Robert grabbed the assistant's arm and locked both eyes on him.
Sweat ran all over the assistant's face as he said, shaking, "This piece of land really isn't on the list."
Robert still couldn't believe it. His body gave out for a second, and he nearly collapsed right there onto the ground.
"How could this happen? I already checked everything."
"Sir, they might've changed it at the last minute," Arnold said.
Robert clenched his fists.
"How is that possible? How is that possible..."
Then his eyes snapped toward the three of them in the distance and locked straight onto Nathaniel's face.
"It was you, wasn't it? You set me up?!"
He didn't need to think that hard. Everything here had been planned out perfectly, and now the redevelopment was suddenly gone. Somebody had to have tampered with it.
Robert thought back to Nathaniel agreeing to handle the matter for him, then turning around and selling him the land. With all of it put together, what else was there not to understand?
Nathaniel's brows lifted slightly.
"Uncle Robert, what are you talking about? Why can't I make sense of any of this?"
Looking at that innocent face of his, Robert lost his grip completely. He strode straight at Nathaniel and threw up his hand, aiming to slap him across the face.
But there was no way Nathaniel was going to let him have his way.
He shot out a hand and caught Robert by the wrist.
"Robert, nothing's even clear yet, and you're sure you want to lay a hand on me?"
His voice wasn't loud, but the pressure in it landed hard.
Robert got crushed under Nathaniel's sheer presence. The force went right over him, and all the strength seemed to drain out of his body.
"I... I..."
Nathaniel flicked his hand away in one hard motion.
Robert stumbled back several steps.
He barely managed to steady himself, then forced himself to settle down.
At that point, Wren stepped forward and asked, "What happened?"
Robert looked at the blank look on his face and decided it didn't seem fake.
His brother clearly didn't know what was going on.
"The dossier came down. This place is still wasteland. I took a loss."
It wasn't just a loss.
