When Her Death Couldn't Break Him (Cecilia and Nathaniel) novel Chapter 2312

After she hung up, Cecilia finally let out a breath.

As long as Cassandra didn't do anything bad, that was enough.

Cecilia was getting older too now, and all she wanted was to live her days in peace.

If Cassandra tried anything crooked again, Cecilia would kill her.

Spring passed into fall.

Time slipped by in a blur.

Before long, black hair had turned white, and Cecilia was pushing seventy.

By then, all of Cecilia's sons had finally gotten married.

Jon's and Elliot's children—her grandsons—were already in elementary school.

That day, Cecilia held her phone and listened as one of her people said, "Boss, Stella passed."

That word—passed—had reached Cecilia's ears too many times by the time she grew old.

Over the years, her father-in-law and Linda had also died one after another.

Even among the women she used to call sisters, Madeline had gone last year.

Then, in the first half of this year, Darren followed after her.

That left only Amelia and her husband holding up the Faust residence.

At least the man Amelia had married was of the Griffiths family. He also had some connection to Elena, and he treated Amelia well. He wouldn't wrong her.

Cecilia had already told her sons to make sure they looked after Amelia, and Dahlia too, now that Dahlia had married abroad.

She let out a long breath, then asked the person on the line again.

"How's Cassandra?"

The man said they hadn't found any news.

Cassandra had disappeared sometime last year.

She hadn't lived well these past years. Most of the time, she'd been surviving by begging.

"Got it."

Cecilia hung up the phone.

She already knew that with Cassandra in that kind of situation, she was probably gone too.

Then she dropped the news into the group chat she shared with her old friends.

Vivian let out a sigh. "Hey, everybody's leaving one after another now. I really can't bear it."

Chelsea, on the other hand, took it well.

"Don't be scared. They just went ahead first. It won't be long before we go too, and when that time comes, we'll be together again."

The others all sent eye-roll emojis.

Cecilia sent back a smiling emoji.

She really didn't think much of it.

Life and death were ordinary things.

After chatting with her friends, Cecilia slipped under the covers and lay down.

Nathaniel had gone to sleep early. He held her in his arms and said, "Ceci."
