Chapter One Hundred And Fifty: Don’t Fall In Love.
“Wait… you had sex with him?” Aurora’s voice shot up an octave. “You had sex with Dreston?”
“Oh my God,” Daisy added, blinking slowly as if processing heavy data. “You slept with your ex–husband. That is… dramatic. Heartbreaking. Iconic. I’m conflicted.”
Unlike Aurora, who looked ready to pace the room, Daisy remained seated and composed, legs crossed, fingers steepled thoughtfully like she was analyzing a business merger.
Cassienne stared at both of them in disbelief.
She hadn’t expected this. Not the shock. Not the panic. Certainly not the judgment. She had imagined squeals. Teasing. Congratulations.
Instead, the room felt… tense.
“I thought you would be happy for me,” Cassienne said quietly. The excitement that had filled her voice moments ago slowly faded. “I thought… I don’t know what I thought anymore.”
The three women were gathered in Cassienne’s apartment living room. She had moved back just yesterday after work, settling into her own space again. Aurora and Daisy had shown up unannounced with wine and takeout, ready for a girls‘ night.
And somewhere between laughter and gossip, Cassienne had shared everything.
The reconciliation. The confession. The intimacy. Now silence stretched between them.
Aurora pressed her lips together. Daisy looked thoughtful. Cassienne suddenly felt exposed.
Maybe she shouldn’t have mentioned the sex part.
“Okay,” Aurora exhaled at last. “I’m sorry I yelled.”
She shifted forward on the couch.
“I just… wasn’t expecting things to escalate that fast. Cassie, he’s Dreston. He can still hurt you.”
Daisy nodded once. “That’s the concern.”
Another silence followed.
Then Aurora stood, crossed the room, and sat beside Cassienne. She turned fully toward her and gently
took her hand.
“I am not judging you,” Aurora said softly. “I’m scared for you.”
Cassienne’s throat tightened slightly.
“I don’t want to see you break again.”
“I know,” Cassienne replied gently. “But he loves me now.”

Aurora’s grip tightened slightly. “How do you know?”
Cassienne swallowed. “I overheard him.”
Both Aurora and Daisy stiffened.
“What do you mean overheard?” Daisy asked carefully.
“He was talking to Tina,” Cassienne continued. “He ended things with her. Clearly. He told her he loves me. That he wants to start a family with me.”
Daisy sat upright now.
“Are you sure?”
Cassienne nodded slowly, a faint smile returning.
“I know when Dreston is acting,” she said quietly. “And he wasn’t acting. He doesn’t lie just to get something. That’s one thing about him.”
She paused.
“I lived with him for five years. If he wanted to use me, he had plenty of chances. He never did.”
Daisy raised a brow dramatically.
“Maybe because you weren’t an international gaming legend back then.”
Aurora shot her a warning look.
“What? I’m just presenting alternative theories,” Daisy defended herself, hands raised innocently.
Cassienne couldn’t help but laugh faintly.
“Look,” she said, steadying herself. “I know you don’t hate Dreston. You’re just afraid he’ll hurt me again.”
“Yes,” Aurora answered immediately.
“Yes,” Daisy echoed.
Cassienne leaned back into the couch. “But this is different. You should see him now. He cooks with
me.”
Silence fell. Aurora blinked.
“Repeat that.”
“He cooks. In the kitchen. With me.”
Daisy’s mouth fell open. “Dreston Tremont?”
“The same.”

“The man who treated the kitchen like it was a restricted government facility?”
“Yes.”
Aurora leaned back slowly, stunned. “He once told you that you weren’t allowed near the stove because you’d ‘stress the chef.“”
Cassienne burst into laughter.
Exactly.
During their marriage, the chef handled everything. Dreston preferred precision, order, professionalism. Cassienne had enjoyed cooking occasionally, but only when requested and never freely.
And now?
“He makes pancakes,” she added lightly.
Daisy placed a hand dramatically over her chest. “Okay. If that man is flipping pancakes, I withdraw fifty percent of my skepticism.”
Aurora nodded slowly. “That is not a small change. That is character development.”
The tension eased.
The three women leaned into each other on the couch, laughter breaking through the heavy moment.
“Well,” Daisy began thoughtfully, “here is my official advice.”
Cassienne looked wary.
“If the sex is good,” Daisy continued calmly, “enjoy it. Don’t get pregnant. And don’t give him your entire emotional portfolio again.”
Aurora nodded against Cassienne’s shoulder. “I agree. Enjoy the intimacy. But protect your heart.”
She looked at Cassienne carefully.
“Don’t fall in love blindly. Rise into it. Slowly. With awareness.”
The room quieted again, but this time it wasn’t tense.
It was reflective.
Cassienne stared ahead, absorbing their words.
As much as she trusted Dreston… her friends weren’t entirely wrong.
Love had hurt her once. And this time, the stakes felt higher.
Yes, he had changed. Yes, he had chosen her. And yes, she believed him. But belief didn’t erase memory.

“Guard your heart.” The words echoed softly in her mind. She loved him. She wanted him. And she believed him. But how did one love fully… and still protect herself?
That question lingered in the quiet room long after the laughter faded.
And now, after the reconciliation, Cassienne felt a flicker of doubt.
