Chapter One Hundred And Eighty–One: Mr. Tremont Wants To Speak To You.
The private recovery wing had fallen into an uneasy hush after hours of tests, scans, and quiet consultations. The doctor had finally stepped back, satisfied that Cassienne was medically stable enough to be discharged. Her fainting spell had alarmed everyone–especially once the pregnancy was confirmed–but the nurses had insisted on observation until every vital sign was steady. Cassienne, however, had refused to stay a moment longer than necessary.
She wanted out.
The hospital had become a battlefield of memories and pain. Every beep of a monitor, every sterile scent, every glimpse of white coats reminded her of the night Dreston had been rushed in after the accident, of the cold truth she had learned in the waiting room, of the way her world had cracked open again. She couldn’t breathe here anymore.
Aurora and Daisy were already waiting for her in the hallway when she emerged from the examination room. Both women looked drained–the long night had carved shadows beneath their eyes, but their concern was sharper than their exhaustion. Cassienne appeared pale but composed, her hospital gown replaced with the simple clothes Aurora had brought from home: soft grey joggers and a loose white sweater. Her hair was pulled into a low, messy bun, strands escaping around her face.
Aurora stepped forward immediately, gently taking Cassienne’s elbow as they started toward the elevator.
“Are you sure you’re okay to walk?” Aurora asked softly, voice laced with worry.
Cassienne gave a small nod. “I just want to go home.”
Daisy walked on her other side, glancing at her carefully. “You look like you might faint again.”
“I won’t,” Cassienne replied quietly.
But her voice carried a heaviness that betrayed her. Each step felt heavier than the last; her body still hummed with fatigue, and her mind refused to settle. The three women reached the elevator area and waited in silence. The hallway was calm now, the faint hum of hospital machinery echoing through the quiet floor like a distant heartbeat.
Just as the elevator light blinked and the doors slid open, footsteps approached from behind.
“Mrs. Tremont.”
The voice made Cassienne turn. A young nurse was walking quickly toward them, clipboard in hand, slightly out of breath.
Cassienne tilted her head slightly. “Yes?”
The nurse stopped in front of them. “I’m sorry, ma’am,” she said politely, “but you can’t leave now.”
Aurora frowned immediately. “What do you mean she can’t leave?”

Cassienne looked confused. “Is there a problem?”
The nurse nodded gently. “Mr. Tremont wants to speak with you.”
For a moment, none of them moved.
Aurora and Daisy exchanged shocked looks.
Cassienne blinked. “…What?”
The nurse repeated calmly. “Mr. Tremont asked that you come see him before leaving.”
Cassienne’s heart skipped. Her chest tightened suddenly–hope and fear colliding in the same breath.” Are you sure?” she asked carefully.
The nurse nodded. “Yes, ma’am. The doctor approved it. Please come with me.”
Cassienne looked at her friends. Hope flickered in her eyes. A small, fragile, but real.
Maybe… Just maybe something had changed. Maybe the dream she had prayed for had finally come true. Maybe his memory was returning, even just a fragment.
Aurora squeezed her hand gently.
“Go,” she whispered.
Cassienne nodded. Her heart was beating faster now. The nurse led them down the corridor toward
Dreston’s room.
But as they approached, they saw someone already standing outside the door.
Tina.
She was leaning against the wall, arms crossed tightly over her chest. The moment she saw Cassienne approaching, her expression hardened. Her jaw set, eyes narrowing. Cassienne slowed her steps slightly. But the nurse stepped aside politely.
Tina pushed herself off the wall immediately. “This is a bad idea.”
Cassienne stopped. Her patience snapped instantly. “I wasn’t talking to you.”
Tina’s voice sharpened. “You shouldn’t go in there.”
Cassienne stared at her. “And why not?”
Tina stepped closer, voice low but carrying false concern. “Because it’s dangerous for him. You’ve already caused enough stress to his recovery. The doctor said he needs calm and stability.”
Cassienne felt the anger rising inside her chest like a tide. “Move.”
Tina didn’t move.

“You being around him could trigger another episode,” Tina continued. “You should stay away.”
Cassienne’s eyes turned cold. “You don’t get to decide that.”
Tina’s jaw tightened. “I’m thinking about his health.”
Cassienne laughed bitterly. A short, sharp, humorless laugh. “You?”
The tension between them thickened, crackling in the quiet hallway. Aurora and Daisy stepped forward
at the same time.
Aurora crossed her arms. “Step aside, Tina.”
Tina scoffed. “This has nothing to do with you.”
Daisy smirked, folding her arms. “Oh, but it does.”
Cassienne was done listening. She stepped forward and pushed Tina aside–not violently, but firmly enough to make her point.
“Excuse me.”
Tina stumbled slightly, stunned by the sudden force. Before she could recover or follow, Aurora and Daisy blocked her path instantly.
Aurora raised an eyebrow. “Not today.”
Daisy folded her arms tighter. “You’ve done enough damage already.”
Tina glared at them, lips pressed into a thin line. But before she could argue, the door closed behind Cassienne with a soft click.
