When Love Finds Its Way Back (Cassienne and Dreston) novel Chapter 180

Chapter One Hundred And Eighty: I Need A Word With My Exwife.

The private room where Dreston was is dark. Soft hospital lights glowed dimly against the pale walls, and the rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor was the only sound breaking the stillness.

Dreston Tremont lay motionless on the hospital bed. His breathing was steady, his chest rising and falling slowly beneath the thin blanket.

But his mind was not quiet. Not at all. Somewhere in the darkness behind his closed eyes. Memories

flickered.

They came like scattered pieces of a dream. A warm breeze. Rows of vineyards stretching endlessly beneath a golden sunset.

The smell of grapes and fresh earth and laughter with a bright familiar face.

It was Cassienne’s laughter.

The sound of it echoed clearly in his mind. Dreston’s brows twitched slightly as the memory shifted.

He saw her running through the vineyard rows, her long black hair catching the sunlight as she turned back toward him with a playful smile.

DT, you’re too slow! Her voice was teasing. The nickname hit him strangely even in the dream.

  1. DT.

His chest tightened. The memory changed again. Now they were standing closer. The world around them felt quieter.

He remembered her breath catching. The soft gasp that escaped her lips. The way her fingers clutched

his shoulders as he moved against her.

Her voice whispered his name, Dreston

Another image flashed. This one was in the bathtub. Warm water rippling gently.

Cassienne sitting between his legs, her bare back pressed against his chest. His hands were in her hair, gently washing it. The scent of her shampoo filled his nostrils.

You’re spoiling me,she had teased softly.

Dreston remembered smiling against her shoulder.

You deserve to be spoiled.

She had tilted her head slightly to look at him.

Why are you being so sweet all of a sudden? He remembered the answer clearly.

His voice had been quiet.

Because I’m never letting you go again.

The words echoed inside his mind.

I promise you, Cass.”

His arms had wrapped around her gently.

The only thing that can separate us nowis death.

Another flash.

Her lips pressing against his fiercely. The way she kissed him like she was afraid to lose him.

Then, the dream shattered.

Dreston’s eyes flew open. He gasped sharply, and air rushed violently into his lungs as if he had been drowning.

His body jerked upright. The heart monitor beside him began to beep faster.

Mr. Tremont!

The doctor’s voice cut through the room.

Dreston’s breathing came in short bursts as he clutched the bedsheets. Sweat covered his forehead.

Easy, easy-

Two nurses moved quickly beside him. One adjusted the monitor while the doctor stepped closer, placing a steady hand on Dreston’s shoulder.

Mr. Tremont, can you hear me?

Dreston’s eyes darted around the room. His chest was still heaving.

Yesyes

Good.

The doctor spoke calmly.

You’re safe. Just breathe.

Dreston tried to steady himself. Slowly, his breathing began to settle.

The machines beside him gradually returned to their steady rhythm.

Across the room, Tina stood frozen. Her face had gone pale. She had been sitting beside the bed just moments earlier, but the sudden movement had startled her so badly she had stepped back.

Now she stood near the wall, her hands trembling slightly.

She had never seen Dreston react like that. The doctor checked the monitor again.

Your vitals are stabilizing.

Dreston wiped the sweat from his forehead with shaky fingers. His mind was still spinning.

The images from the dream refused to disappear.

Cassienne. Her laughter. And her voice. The way she had looked at him. The memory of holding her in

the bathtub. The promise he had made. His chest tightened again.

The doctor noticed the tension in his expression.

Are you feeling pain?

Dreston shook his head slowly.

No.

Dizziness?

No.

The doctor studied him carefully.

Then tell me what happened.

Dreston leaned back slightly against the pillow.

His breathing had calmed now, but confusion still lingered in his eyes.

II saw something.

The doctor nodded.

That’s normal after head trauma. Sometimes memories appear suddenly.

Dreston frowned slightly.

They didn’t feel like memories.

What did they feel like?

Dreston hesitated. Then he answered quietly.

Real.

Tina’s fingers curled slightly.

Her heart had started beating faster.

The doctor continued gently.

What exactly did you see?

Dreston looked toward the ceiling. For a moment he said nothing. Then his voice came slowly. A vineyard.

Tina froze.

The doctor glanced briefly at the chart.

Interesting.

Dreston continued.

I heard someone laughing.

His brows pulled together. A woman.

The doctor watched him carefully. Do you remember her face?

Dreston’s jaw tightened slightly.

Yes.

Tina felt the blood drain from her face. But the doctor leaned slightly closer. “And who was she?

Dreston didn’t answer. Instead, he lifted his hand slowly to his forehead.

Fragments of the dream flashed again. Her laughter.

Her voice, calling him DT. Her body trembling beneath his touch. His promise in the bathtub.

I’m never letting you go again.

His chest tightened. Then he spoke. My exwife.

The room went silent. The doctor blinked once.

You mean Cassienne Tremont?

Dreston nodded slowly.
