Chapter One Hundred And Eighty–Three: That’s Good News.

The hallway outside Dreston’s hospital room felt so quiet and colder than before. Cassienne stood there, trembling slightly, her arms wrapped tightly around herself as if she were trying to hold her broken pieces together.

Her tears had not fully stopped.

Aurora and Daisy stood on either side of her, both watching her carefully. Aurora finally reached out and gently held her shoulders.

“You need to make yourself strong now, Cass,” she said softly. “You can’t continue like this.”

Cassienne wiped at her wet cheeks, but the tears kept forming again.

Daisy stepped closer and placed a hand lightly on Cassienne’s stomach. “At least for the sake of the little one growing inside you.”

Those words made Cassienne freeze. Her eyes fell to Daisy’s hand. For a moment, silence wrapped

around the three women.

Cassienne inhaled slowly.

Then she straightened her posture. She sniffled, wiping the last of the tears from her face with the back of her hand. “I am strong,” she said quietly.

Her voice wasn’t loud, but there was a firmness in it now. “But Tina was right.”

Aurora frowned instantly.

“What do you mean?”

Cassienne sighed softly. “My presence might be toxic to Dreston’s health.”

Daisy’s brows knitted together. “Cass-”

Cassienne shook her head gently. “I saw what happened when I was with him. The moment we kissed… his body reacted immediately.”

She swallowed. “I might be the trigger.”

Aurora crossed her arms.

“That woman got into your head.”

Cassienne shook her head again. “No.” Her voice remained calm. “I saw it with my own eyes.”

She looked at the door of Dreston’s room for a brief second before turning away.

“I need to stay away from him.” Her words sounded heavy. “Maybe… for now.”

Aurora studied her closely.

“He asked me to kiss him.”

Daisy’s head snapped toward her.

“What?”

Aurora blinked in confusion.

“I don’t understand.”

Cassienne took a slow breath. “He said he needed to confirm something.”

Her eyes lifted slightly as she spoke. “I think he’s getting flashes of memories.”

The two women grew quiet immediately. But Cassienne continued softly. “He asked me if we had ever been to a vineyard together.”

Aurora’s eyes widened. “He’s remembering the trip?”

“Not exactly remembering,” Cassienne replied. “More like… fragments.”

She leaned back slightly against the bench. “He looked confused.”

Her voice trembled again, though she tried to stay calm.

“He said it didn’t make sense to him. Because the flashes he was seeing were… intimate.”

Aurora and Daisy exchanged a look. Cassienne closed her eyes briefly. “When he asked me to kiss him… I thought it might help.”

She pressed her lips together. “And it did.”

Both of her friends stared at her.

“He kissed me,” Cassienne said quietly. “Not like a stranger.”

Her voice softened. “Like he knew me.”

Her chest tightened again at the memory. “It was real.”

She shook her head slowly.

“But I could feel his confusion too.”

And just then the hospital door opened. The doctor stepped out.

All three women stood up immediately. Cassienne’s heart jumped. Hope filled her eyes instantly. She stepped forward quickly.

“Doctor…” Her voice trembled slightly. “How is he doing?”

The doctor gave a reassuring smile. “He’s stable now.”

Cassienne’s shoulders relaxed slightly.

But the doctor continued. “I do need to ask you something.”

Cassienne nodded.

“What happened between the two of you?”

Cassienne glanced briefly at Aurora and Daisy. They both gave her small nods.

Answer him.

She turned back to the doctor.

“He asked me to kiss him.”

The doctor’s brows lifted slightly.

Cassienne continued carefully.

“I did. And he kissed me back.” Her voice lowered. “And then… his heart rate spiked and everything went

crazy.”

The doctor nodded slowly as he processed the information.

“I see.”
