Chapter One Hundred And Eighty–Four: You’re Responsible.
Tina stood at the far end of the hallway, hidden partly behind the corner wall.
She had not intended to listen to the doctor’s conversation with Cassienne. At least, that was what she
told herself.
But when she saw Cassienne speaking with the doctor earlier, she had slowed her steps. Something in Cassienne’s hopeful expression had made Tina uneasy. So she stayed and she listened to every word.
Now, as she stood there alone, the doctor’s words replayed in her mind.
“If he keeps seeing you… that might help him recover faster.”
Her fingers curled slowly into her palms.
Recover faster.
That was the last thing Tina wanted. Her jaw tightened.
For years she had built her place beside Dreston carefully. Every lie, every manipulation, every calculated move had brought her closer to him.
Now all of that was at risk. If his memories returned… Everything would collapse. He would remember the confrontation he had with her.
He would remember the pen.
He would remember the girl he had truly loved. And that girl was not her.
Tina inhaled slowly, forcing her face to relax. Panicking would not help. She needed to be careful.
The hallway was quiet now. Cassienne and her friends had already left for the elevators, their voices fading down the corridor.
Tina straightened her shoulders.
Then she turned and walked toward the doctor’s office. Her steps were calm and controlled.
Anyone watching would have thought she was simply a worried woman trying to help the man she loved.
The doctor looked up when she knocked lightly on the open door.
“Yes?”
Tina stepped inside with a polite smile. “Doctor, do you have a moment?”
“Of course,” he replied, gesturing toward the chair across from him.
She sat down gracefully. Her hands folded neatly in her lap. For a moment, she said nothing, as though choosing her words carefully.

Then she spoke. “I’m worried about Dreston.”
The doctor nodded. “That’s understandable.”
Tina lowered her eyes slightly, her voice soft. “I know you said his condition is improving. And I’m grateful for that.” She paused. “But I’m concerned about the stress he might be experiencing.”
The doctor leaned back slightly. “Go on.”
Tina sighed quietly. “I noticed something earlier.” Her voice carried gentle concern. “When Cassienne was in the room with him… his condition changed very suddenly.”
The doctor studied her.
“Yes. His heart rate spiked.”
Tina nodded slowly. “That’s what worries me.”
She hesitated again before continuing.
“I understand that you believe Cassienne might help trigger his memories.”
The doctor didn’t respond yet.
“But what if the emotional strain is too much for him right now?”
Tina lifted her eyes again, letting them show just enough worry. “I don’t want him to suffer another episode.”
Her tone sounded sincere. “I only want what’s best for his recovery.”
The doctor folded his arms thoughtfully. “You’re suggesting that Cassienne’s presence might be overwhelming for him.”
“I’m only suggesting caution,” Tina replied carefully. “I know how emotional their relationship was.”
Her words were chosen deliberately. “And if his brain is still healing… forcing those memories too quickly could be dangerous.”
The doctor considered this quietly.
Tina continued gently. “Perhaps… it would be safer to limit her contact with him for now.”
She quickly added, “Just until he stabilizes further.”
The doctor tapped his pen lightly against the desk.
“You do make a valid point.”
Tina’s eyes remained calm, though inside she felt a surge of relief.
The doctor sighed. “I’ll consider your request.”

He looked at her seriously.
“But we must also remember that memory recovery can be unpredictable.”
“I understand,” Tina replied quickly.
“I only want to avoid unnecessary risk.”
The doctor nodded. “That’s fair.”
Tina stood up slowly. “Thank you for hearing me out.”
As she walked out of the office, her expression remained gentle and composed. But the moment she stepped back into the hallway, her calm mask slipped slightly. Her eyes hardened.
Good.
If the doctor limited Cassienne’s access to Dreston, everything would be easier. At least, much easier.
Tina turned and walked back toward Dreston’s room. When she reached the door, she slowed, for voices
were coming from inside.
She recognized them immediately.
Joseph and Dreston.
Tina stopped just beside the door. She hadn’t intended to listen again. But the words drifting out caught her attention instantly.
“…did you know Cassienne is pregnant?”
Dreston’s voice sounded tired but was clear.
Tina froze.
Joseph’s reply came calmly.
“Yes. I knew.”
There was a pause. But Dreston spoke again. “I didn’t know she was cheating on me.”
Tina felt a small, twisted satisfaction at those words at least that misunderstanding still remained.
But Joseph’s next words wiped the satisfaction away instantly.
“Son,” Joseph said slowly, “I’m sorry that you lost some of your memories.”
Tina’s body stiffened.
“But I’m sure you’ll recover them soon.”
