When Love Finds Its Way Back (Cassienne and Dreston) novel Chapter 202

Chapter Twi Hundred And Two: Too Close

The engines hummed softly as the last of the cars rolled out of the compound.

Dreston stood just outside the grand foyer, one hand tucked into his pocket, the other raised slightly in a brief, polite wave. His expression was calm, almost indifferentbut his eyes followed the vehicles until they completely disappeared beyond the gates.

Joseph’s car went first. Then Sheila’s.

Jessica leaned out slightly before her car pulled away, giving him a lookhalf playful, half knowing kind of look. But he didn’t respond. He simply nodded at her.

And just like that, the house grew quiet.

Sir, should I stay with you?Steve asked from behind him.

Dreston shook his head. No. I’ll be fine.

Steve hesitated.

Dreston turned slightly, his tone firm but not harsh. Mrs. Rawlings is here. I don’t need security inside my own house.

Well, that was true. But not entirely. Steve studied him for a second, then gave a short nod. Understood,

sir.

A few minutes later, the second SUV rolled out of the compound, and the gates closed. For the first time since his return from the hospital, Dreston felt alone.

He exhaled slowly and turned back into the compound, his steps unhurried as he walked past the wide front steps and down toward the open grounds.

He walked without a destination at first, just letting his feet guide him. The gravel crunched softly beneath his shoes as he moved further away from the main building.

Then he stopped.

A few steps ahead of him was a garden. Not just any garden. But a carefully designed one.

Flowers lined in neat arrangements. Low hedges trimmed with precision. A small stone pathway curved gently through it, leading toward a sitting area shaded by a simple wooden pergola.

It was beautiful. A peaceful and pleasant place to stay. But something made him frown slightly. He didn’t remember having this garden. He stepped forward slowly, his eyes moving across the space, taking in the details.

The flowers weren’t random. They were chosen and balanced. There was a softness to the arrangement -something that made it feel deliberate, almostpersonal.

One of the workers nearby noticed him and immediately straightened. Good afternoon, sir.

Dreston nodded briefly but said nothing.

Another greeted him. Welcome back, sir.

He acknowledged them with a slight incline of his head. But he didn’t ask questions because he knew that this wasn’t something the staff would have done on their own.

This was his doing.

Or

The version of him he couldn’t remember. So he walked further into the garden, his fingers brushing lightly against a blooming flower as he passed.

If I don’t remember asking for thishe murmured quietly to himself, thenHe paused. Thinking

about Cassienne.

The thought came naturally and effortlessly. If something like this could exist without his memory of it, then everything they had told him earlier could also be real.

He exhaled slowly. Now, the idea didn’t feel impossible. This has just proved to him that he has lost some memories and his relationship with Cassienne, everything he has heard might actually be true.

Cassienne.He muttered.

And just as her name settled in his mind, the sound of a car humming and the soft crunch of tires against gravel filled the air.

Dreston’s head turned immediately. His body reacted before his mind could catch up. From the far end of the driveway, a car was approaching. And somehow, he already knew who was coming. He didn’t need confirmation.

It was her. Cassienne.

Something undeniable shifted inside him. Without thinking further, he turned and began walking back toward the front of the mansion. By the time he reached the front entrance. The car had already stopped and the door opened.

Cassienne stepped out, and Dreston stopped walking. For a moment, he simply watched.

Cassienne stood beside the car, adjusting her bag slightly on her shoulder. She wasn’t dressed extravagantly. No heavy makeup and no elaborate styling.

Just a simple outfit.

A white fitted top that hugged her figure perfectly, paired with a soft floral skirt that moved gently with the breeze. And yet, she looked beautiful.

Dreston’s gaze lingered. This was the first time since waking up in the hospital that he truly looked at her.

Not as his exwife. But as a woman. And something about that realization unsettled him. She laughed

lightly at something one of the staff said, her voice soft and warm.

That sound. He didn’t understand how it made him feel.

Cassienne was still by the car, greeting the staff one after the other.

Welcome back, ma’am.
