Finally, Cassienne smiled. It wasn’t that big smile. But it was real, the type that made her heart soft and relieved Dreston saw her reaction and for a moment, he didn’t look away. He found himself watching her longer than he should, taking in the way her expression changed, the way her eyes softened when she
smiled.
Something about it felt… right to him and that was what confused him. Because from what he remembered, things between them had never been like this. Their relationship had been distant,
controlled, almost emotionless.
But now, he was seeing her differently. He frowned slightly to himself.
“Has she always been like this… and I was just too blind to notice?” The thought lingered in his mind longer than he expected.
Cassienne didn’t notice what was going on in his head. She was simply glad he had made that decision about Tina. It gave her a kind of quiet relief she hadn’t felt in days.
Dreston finished the soup slowly. And when he was done, he picked up a napkin and wiped his mouth neatly. His movements were calm, refined, just as she remembered.
He placed the napkin aside and looked at her.
“Thank you,” he said.
Cassienne met his eyes.
“It was good,” he added. “If you don’t mind… I would appreciate it if you can make it for me from time to time.”
Cassienne’s lips curved again. “I don’t mind,” she replied. “I will.”
There was a brief silence after that, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. It felt… easy.
They moved to the drawing room shortly after.
The maids had already prepared the space. Fresh juice was served in crystal glasses, placed neatly on the low table in front of the sofa. As soon as everything was set, the maids quietly excused themselves, leaving the two of them alone again.
Cassienne sat at one end of the sofa. Dreston sat at the other. There was space between them. Not too much. But enough to be noticed. For a moment, neither of them spoke. The quiet stretched, but it didn’t feel empty. It felt like both of them were thinking carefully about what to say next.
Dreston broke the silence. “I want you to help me remember things, Cassienne.”
His voice was steady, but there was something deeper beneath it. Something serious. Cassienne turned her head slightly to look at him.

“I know I’ve forgotten how you got back to Auralink System,” he continued. “But if you can help me through the things we’ve done together… I believe it will help.”
Cassienne didn’t reply immediately, because his request caught her off guard. Not because it didn’t make sense, but because it made too much sense. It was logical and tempting.
A part of her wanted to say yes immediately. To tell him everything. To walk him through every moment they had shared, every step that had brought them back together.
But another part of her, the careful part hesitated. She looked down at her hands for a moment, gathering her thoughts before she spoke. “This is my honest opinion,” she began.
Dreston watched her quietly.
“I think we should take things slow for now,” she continued. “Until you are fully recovered.”
Her voice was calm, but firm. “You still need to rest well. It would be bad to stress your brain now.” She lifted her eyes back to his. “Let’s focus on your health first. Then your request can follow.”
Dreston didn’t interrupt her. Instead, he simply watched her as she spoke.
There was something about the way she explained things–careful, thoughtful, without pressure–that
made it easy for him to listen.
When she finished, he remained quiet for a few seconds. Then he nodded. “I agree with you.”
Cassienne relaxed slightly. But before she could say anything else, he spoke again.
“Since we lived together before the accident…”
She looked at him.
“I think we should continue that way.”
Her expression changed slightly.
Dreston held her gaze as he continued. “I heard that we were preparing to get married again. I think we
should continue with the arrangement.”
He paused briefly. “I am ready to take responsibility.”
Cassienne felt her heart tighten. That wasn’t what she expected. And it wasn’t entirely what she wanted either. At least, not like this. Not when he couldn’t remember what they had built together.
But at the same time. She understood what this could mean. If she stayed here… If they continued living together… Then Tina would have no place in his life anymore. There would be no room for manipulation. And no room for opportunity for interference.
This could protect what she and Dreston had… even if he didn’t remember it yet. Cassienne inhaled slowly.

Then she nodded. “Whatever you suggest,” she said softly. “Anything to help you recover faster.”
Dreston watched her for a moment. Then, slowly, he smiled. It wasn’t a big smile. But it was genuine,
“Come here,” he said, patting the space beside him.
Cassienne froze for a second. The request was simple. But it did something to her. It felt so intimate. Her heart began to beat a little faster, and she couldn’t immediately understand why.
This was Dreston. The man she loved. The man she had been with. And the man who had held her,
kissed her, lived with her.
So why did he suddenly feel like a stranger?
Why did something so simple make her nervous? She swallowed lightly, then stood up. She walked toward him and sat down beside him, leaving just a small space between them.
