After Dreston asked the question, Cassienne knew she could not postpone this marriage any longer. If she could have it her way, she would have waited until his memory fully returned. But she also understood something important–this marriage might be the very thing that helped him remember.
So she finally answered. “As soon as the doctor says you are fit.”
Dreston looked at her with a strange kind of recognition, as if he could sense her pulling away. He didn’t understand why, but he needed an answer.
“Why do I feel like you are trying to create a boundary between us?” he asked quietly.
Cassienne gasped. She reacted immediately. “What? No. What makes you think that?
She stood up at once and moved to his side. Her hands gently cupped his face. “I can never stay away from you, Dreston. I love you,” she said, tears slipping down her cheeks. “I am only trying to protect you. I am only trying not to hurt you. You got into an accident that caused you to lose your memories.”
She smiled through her tears. “It’s not easy to not touch you, Dreston. At twenty–seven, you were my first. You taught me things I never believed my body was capable of. I got used to having sex with you every day… and now you can’t even remember that. How do you think I feel? Seeing a woman who was no longer in our lives claiming you because you can’t remember some things. Hearing you say that you want to get engaged with her. All of that was killing me slowly, Dreston.”
Dreston watched her with deep emotion in his eyes. His body reacted to every word she spoke- especially the part about their intimacy. Ever since he left the hospital and she came back into his life, the one thing he had wanted most was to be close to her again.
Now, with the sincerity in her voice, the tears in her eyes, and the way his body was responding to her presence, he knew the truth. She might not live in his memories yet, but right now, his heart and his body craved this woman more than anything.
Nothing was going to stop him. He gently took her hands from his face and held them.
Cassienne sobbed harder. She thought he was angry, until he spoke the words she never expected.
“I want everyone out of this mansion this instant,” he said firmly. “I need time alone with my wife.”
Cassienne gasped, her hands flying up to cover her mouth. Dreston was changing. The man she knew was slowly coming back.
Mrs. Rawlings also gasped, but she reacted quickly. “Everyone out. Now,” she ordered.
The staff obeyed without hesitation, quietly filing out of the room and towards the door. Soon, the sound of the front door closing echoed through the house.
The moment the door shut, Dreston stood up. He wrapped his arms around Cassienne’s waist and pulled her close. He leaned forward and buried his nose beside her neck, inhaling her scent deeply.

“I might not remember what we had, Cassienne,” he whispered against her skin, “but there is something I do remember.”
Her breath caught. “What?”
“Your smell,” he said, voice low and rough with need. “It is addictive. I remember it, and I crave it. Right here, on this marble island, we made love, Cass. And now… I want more of it. Please, don’t deny me that.”
Cassienne’s heart raced wildly. Tears still clung to her lashes, but a new warmth spread through her body at his words. She could feel the heat of his desire pressing against her, the way his arms held her like he never wanted to let go.
“Dreston…” she whispered, voice trembling.
He pulled back just enough to look into her eyes. His grey eyes were dark with longing and something deeper, something that felt like the beginning of recognition.
“I don’t know everything yet,” he said softly, “but I know I want you. I know my body remembers you even when my mind doesn’t. And right now, that is enough for me.”
He leaned in and kissed her. It was slow at first, then deeper, pouring all the confusion, the hunger, and the quiet ache into that kiss. Cassienne melted against him, her hands sliding up to his shoulders as she kissed him back with equal passion.
