Cassienne felt something press lightly against her thigh. It was familiar in a way. Even in her half–asleep state, she understood what it meant.
For a brief moment, she stayed still, her body reacting instinctively before her mind could catch up. There was a part of her that almost leaned into it, almost welcomed it.
But when reality settled in. Her eyes opened slowly. She found herself lying very close to Dreston. Her cheek rested against his chest, her upper body pressed against him, and one of her legs was draped
over his.
Cassienne exhaled softly. This had happened many times before. She had always been a restless sleeper, often moving without realizing it. But this time, it felt different.
Dreston’s arm was wrapped tightly around her, holding her in place. His grip was firm, almost possessive, as though he had no intention of letting her go.
She lifted her head slightly and looked at him. His eyes were closed. But something about the way he held her made her doubt he was truly asleep.
“He couldn’t be sleeping,” she murmured quietly.
Carefully, she tried to shift away. His arm tightened immediately.
Cassienne smiled softly. “Dreston,” she said gently, her voice still low with sleep, “please, I need to use the restroom.”
Almost instantly, his grip loosened. He still didn’t open his eyes.
Cassienne sat up slowly and looked at him for a moment. There was something almost amusing about the way he remained still, pretending not to be aware.
Then, as she stood, Dreston turned to his side, adjusting himself slightly without looking at her.
Cassienne nearly laughed. It was such a simple reaction, but it felt… familiar. Even comforting.
She shook her head lightly and walked into the bathroom.
Later that evening, they were both in the kitchen. Dinner was simple, but it was good.
Cassienne moved around with ease, serving their plates while Dreston sat across from her, watching quietly. The atmosphere between them had softened compared to earlier. It was not tense. And it was not forced.
It felt natural.
They ate together, and their conversation flowed easily.

Cassienne began telling him about the company, focusing on the important things he needed to know before returning to work. She explained ongoing projects, key decisions, and the current state of Auralink System in a clear and structured way.
Dreston listened carefully. From time to time, he asked questions, and she answered them without
hesitation.
They even laughed in between. And for the first time since the accident, Dreston did not feel lost. He didn’t feel like he was behind or disconnected.
Instead, he felt like he was catching up. Like someone was helping him find his way back. And that someone was Cassienne.
“I heard that you still play as NULLWRAITH,” Dreston said suddenly, shifting the conversation.
Cassienne laughed softly and nodded. “Someone exposed me,” she replied. “I guess I couldn’t hide
forever.”
Dreston smiled, but his expression grew more thoughtful. “It must be difficult,” he said. “With the attention and the pressure that comes with it.”
Cassienne shrugged lightly. “It’s not that bad,” she said. “I think it’s actually a good thing. It opens doors. Though the collaboration offers can be overwhelming. Different companies and e–sports organizations keep sending proposals. It gets distracting sometimes.”
Dreston watched her as she spoke. There was something about the way she talked about her work that held his attention. She was confident, clear, and passionate without trying too hard.
It made him understand something he had missed before. Cassienne was not ordinary. She had never been. He had just never given her the chance to show it.
That realization did not sit well with him.
For five years, he had lived with her, yet he had kept a distance between them. He had not tried to understand her. He had not given her space to grow within their marriage.
And now, seeing her like this. He felt regret.
Cassienne noticed the shift in his expression. “What’s wrong?” she asked.
Dreston hesitated for a moment before speaking. “I’m sorry.”
Cassienne paused. “About what?”
He looked at her directly. “About everything,” he said. “The way I treated you in the past. Not knowing you. Not giving you the chance to prove yourself.”
He exhaled slightly. “I don’t know… I just feel like I got it wrong.”
Cassienne held his gaze. For a moment, she wanted to tell him that it no longer mattered. That they had already moved past that stage.

But then she remembered. To him, that past was still present. Those memories were still fresh.
“You’ve said that many times before,” she replied gently. “Don’t drag us backwards.”
Dreston raised a brow slightly. “Oh really?”
